Overture High Speed TPU

Just thought I’d share here that I’ve been running a few prints with Overtures high speed TPU. Only changes to filament settings came from a Youtube video where he suggested changing the retraction to 1mm and volumetric speed to 7.2.

I haven’t run any extensive tests but so far, printing with a .4 nozzle, everything has printed great and in about half the time. I’ll see about printing up a Benchy just so I can post some photos and print stats.

you no longer posted anything. I imagine why the results were not as expected. If not, could you share the filament profile and printing parameters of a process?

It’s been working great for me. I just haven’t had a chance to do any “testing” or tuning but overall I’m quite happy with the results and speed. I just used the generic TPU profile and changed the two things mentioned in the original post - retraction to 1mm and volumetric speed to 7.2

You didn’t change anything else?
What plate did you use?

Nope, just those two settings. Printed on the engineering plate with glue stick to help release. As far as speed, no idea. I just let the volumetric flow determine the print speed. I can tell you that for the stuff I was printing, print time was pretty much cut in half. It wasn’t PLA fast but more towards what PETG prints at.

I hit 16mm3/s with this stuff constantly.

Normal pei sheet it’s tpu so remove the pay by pealing it when the plate is hot or when it’s cool put some isopropyl around the edges of the print and peal. Even warm isopropyl helps release it like PLA. Only other option is pei with something on it so it has less adhesion.

This is a weird tpu. Its a tpu/PETG blend. The hardness they claim is not accurate. It’s harder but still kinda flexible. They claim 95a but in reality it’s closer to a 60d put it next to normal 95a tpu and theres a big difference. Personally I like the stuff. Where a USB dust plug in 95a was too flexible. The high speed tpu was perfect. And it has a plasticy kinda petg feel to the parts when done and compared to tpu.

If you want something easier to print. That’s a little softer than tpu but prints a bit faster then tpu the flexible PLA is a nice option.

Yeah, that is a good point that I didn’t mention about the hardness. I also did notice that I needed to reduce the infill a little to retain the same flex characteristics versus regular tpu. For the applications I’m using it for, it’s still fine though. Flexible enough and pretty much indestructible.

This is the first time for me to print TPU. At the moment I am printing very slow. I set the volumetric speed to 7.2.
But on the other hand I am afraid to push beyond 100 mm/s

Run it. Worst case you gotta clear a jam. It’s not that hard.

Just before you get crazy print the extruder dissasemly block. I had one jam that was a pain and it would of helped a ton.

To me it’s not to be used as a TPU replacement But it’s on material as a semi-flexible depending on infill extremely high impact part. I hate their filament but I always keep a spool the high speed TPU on hand because I actually like the properties of it but I’m not using it how they intended as a flexible material I’m more as extremely high impact material. Basically I either print 100% infill or extremely high-end or I use something else.

Yep, that’s exactly how I’m using it in one instance. It’s a part that I’d typically use PETG but due to exposure to impact and other forces, this stuff with higher infill is a very rigid PETG replacement.

Thank you for the tips, cut a 2 day print time in half on a kickstand part I’m making, very nice!

I can confirm these settings! I also added “Retraction on layer change.”
