Hi all,
I have a p1p and I absolutely love it and I’m looking to get the p1s upgrade kit for the enclosure with the auxiliary fan. I print a lot of functional parts and want to start printing ABS and potentially Nylon. The enclosure is out of stock and has been for several months. As an alternative I was wondering if I Fabricate my own panels and buy the necessary fans and cables if I would be able to get the same results as the upgrade kit. thank you for any help!

Welcome to the forum.
To print the higher temp materials you really don’t need the Aux fan. I only use mine to help heat up the chamber before printing. All you really need is a way to enclose the printer with the panels/door/top from Bambu or something you make yourself. Putting the box that the printer came in over it can even work as a temporary solution.
I used the P1P for 8 months with a printed enclosure. Its not hard, but it will not be as polished. I used PETG, and it held up fine. Actually, my enclosure temps were higher and the noise lower than the official enclosure because I didn’t have the extra fans.
Bambu offered STLs that you can modify and fully enclose. If you buy the glass top and front, you will need to modify the rear panel and print a front panel extender. But that’s pretty easy if you know CAD. If you don’t know CAD, there are files that can be downloaded on Makerworld and Printables.
That said, Bambu suggest adding the extra fans to avoid overheating the mainboard, as well as a exhaust fan to clear hot air out when printing PLA and TPU. On the exhaust fan, I never had any issues printing PLA, but TPU often clogged before I added it (maybe once in 5 prints, especially if there was a long or repeat print). So, I’d suggest heeding that warning.
Thanks for the Idea, thats a great temporary solution that I will definitely try. I forgot to mention in the original post but I am also interested in the aux fan to help with print performance on overhangs and speed. would a homemade enclosure with the fan add-ons result in similar quality performance to the bought upgrade kit?
The AUX fan can help with overhangs and speed for PLA but can cause issues and warping for ABS and other shrinkage prone materials.
Just and FYI, you can print several versions of enclosures that will use the stock door and glass top from Bambu. Look for Vision, Arc enclosures. Ran vision for the longest time with all the other upgrades (no mention of an upgrade path before the P1S was announced) and had no issue.
