P1S+AMS refill print problem

Hi,
I have the combo P1S+AMS.
My problem is when the Refill occurs. It works, it changes the spool to the other identical one, but when does that, I didn’t see what is happening, but this maneuver it leaves a gap in the print.
Is there somebody else with the same problem?
Is there a setting to prevent this?
Thank you.

I had something similar on a surface a while ago. I assumed it completed a gcode command, ran out, reloaded and then resumed with the next gcode point, missing the path between running out and the end point when it ran out.

Hi~May I ask if you are using the automatic material change function? Or did you just reload after the material was broken?

I tried both ways:

  1. I put a new roll instead of the empty one.
  2. I put two identical “Filaments” in the AMS and it did the “Refill” automatically.
    Same result.
Luckily, the second time, the change took place in the middle of the part and the “problem” was covered by the following layers. I also didn’t need high quality finish.
I’ve looked. It purges and wipes like at a color change. Then, is going to continue printing, but nothing goes out from the nozzle initially, only after “a distance” hence the gap.
Maybe because of the missing of the purge tower (like for color change) it can’t synchronize correctly the start of extrusion with the place where it stopped?
Hard to believe, but, what else.

Any updates on this?

With the P1s and AMS2 pro.
I’m using petg-CF
Only one color.
When the filament finishes in one AMS slot - the new slot doesn’t seem to purge enough.
When the new roll starts to print - there is a small gap in the print.
There is no prime tower as its all one color.
Only one filament so cant adjust the flushing volume either

How can I fix this?
more purge maybe?

Hi,
Honestly, I don’t know. I avoided entirely the situation. I preferred to put a new roll when I had the feeling that the filament would run out.
But as I said, in my case looks like it purges a normal amount. And, even if, if it purges, that means the toolhead is full. The problem seems to be that it’s not extruding for some seconds after the head postion it self at the point where it stopped and resumes the movent. The head goes on it’s path but there is no material coming out from the hotend. I say again, it “pooped” during the spool change like on every other color change. That’s strange.

Hello,

Thank you for the quick response.
I specifically bought like 10x AMS pros because I can not use a new roll every time and its a lot of half full roll to weight for each print.

Anywhere in the Gcode I can increase something?
It does poop out, so I guess increase purge volume won’t help?
Anything you can suggest I will try. But we need it to be able to refill properly.

I’d expect the lack of a prime tower to be the main culprit here.

You can enforce a prime tower by taking a smooth timelapse in “Other” settings. You can also change the size of the prime tower to reduce waste.

That will probably work.
But its one material and enabling the prime tower option still doesn’t build one. Or least, I couldn’t get it to make one unless I “paint” part of it with another material.

Yes, with a single color merely enabling the prime tower will not actually generate one. But if you set the Timelapse to “smooth” it enforces a prime tower.

The reason is, that for each pic (1 per layer) it sends the print head to the poop chute so it needs to prime the nozzle again for best results.

Slight disclaimer: I did not upgrade to Studio 2.0 (yet).
