P1S and AMS not feeding

So my P1S/AMS regardless of what filament I try, will spool from the AMS to the print head as expected but only a small amount of filament will feed/purge and extrude. Once it gets to the point where it primes the nozzle and does the test strip there is a small amount that comes out (there is skipping) and then nothing comes out at all! The print head then proceeds to “print” the job as if there is no issue but the AMS stops feeding as does the print head. Nothing comes out and the the print head is jogging around as if something is printing. I get no errors from the AMS or the printer itself for clogging etc. I then stop the print and unload the filament and check the print head. There is a little filament clogged, I clear that with a clog poke tool, some filament does come out but a very small amount, I then try again to print…nothing/same results! This is regardless of what filament I try. I’ve checked the printhead to see if there are any breakages in the head or the PTFE tube, nothing. The filament makes it all the way to the printhead and like I said somewhat feeds/purges but just stops. Just to note I purchased some ELEGOO marble filament which is what started this issue initially I think. After inspecting the filament a little more throughly it looks to be used or damaged. I posted this issue in reddit and someone said “Looks like the entire spool got soaked and then attempted to be air dried”.

The use of cardboard spools in the AMS usually do not work as well as you would hope. Spinning, skippy and jamming are all common.

Many are also too big to easily fit in the ANS when closed, so if it is pulled upwards, it can also jam on the lid of the AMS.

Cardboard spools that do work for a while usually end up getting chewed up edges crippling future use.

Your spool looks like the cardboard sides are beginning to come apart, delamination as it’s called, the source isn’t easy to tell. The soaking suggestion is a guess at best.

The designer AU3D has made it his job to provide spool adapters for all brands and sizes within each.

Print a set of the correct adapters, attach them to your spool and try again.

With any luck, your experience will be greatly improved.

I thought that the cardboard spools was the issue too especially with the delamitation but I also tried a bambu spool with the same results, spits out a little filament and then the AMS and printhead stop feeding dead. But the printhead continues to jog the build plate.

You might have a partial clog. Do you still have the extra nozzle that came with the printer?

Also about the bad roll, Elegoo has really good customer service. If you send them that picture and tell them it clogged your nozzle they’ll probably replace it.

I am getting the spool replaced via amazon. Would a partial clog prevent the AMS/printhead from feeding to the printer and allow the printer to jog the build plate blankly? I am new to printing so I really am curious. How does a partial clog get cleared?

As long as the filament is getting in the extruder and tripping the filament sensor the printer won’t know that it’s not printing. If it’s a full clog nothing will come out but when very little and then nothing comes out it’s a partial clog. Here’s the guide to unclogging:

you’ve already tried the first method… the second method starts with heating up the hex wrench. The reason I asked about the spare nozzle is if you swap it out and everything goes back to normal you’ll know that was the problem.

That was an important detail to leave out my friend.

:sunglasses:

OK, gonna try this as soon as I get home and follow up when done. thank you.

So I replaced the nozzle with the spare. It’s working again. But to just check I also worked on clearing the old nozzle and it had some in there too. Thank you!
