Good Afternoon Y’all,
Hope everyone is having a lovely day so far, I had a rather important question about my P1S. Whenever im printing Its emitting a horrible odor, just like opening a new bag of pla only 10x worse. Everyone in my home is getting headaches and it seems like the carbon filter isn’t working, curious if anyone else has had this issue or if i need to get a replacement? I’m also using all default and stock settings, just got it a few days ago and have not messed with anything yet, bambu slicer, and sunlu pla.
It also seems that the chamber fan for the filter has little to no pull, and actually sucks air into the printer rather than pushing it out, and when I remove the filter and cover it starts blowing outwards- Was the fan put in backwards? I can see the sticker on the fan so I dont believe so- quite odd honestly… If anyone has any ideas as to what it could be it would be really appreciated

What temperatures are you using. I don’t think PLA should be emitting that much odors.
The chamber fan on the printer is weak and I mainly use it for ABS. Carbon filters should last for 2 months depending on how much you print

My Temp for the hotend is 220C, and the bed is 60C. I’ve used an ender3 in the past with this same temp and it never emitted this much of an odor. I did read that this might just be the printer breaking in, and just needs to air out for while, might be it?
That could be, how long have you been printing. My P1S only made a smell when I swapped hotends and that was just for one heat cycle.
I’ve noticed that some brands and colors of PLA just STINK. I use a lot of IIIDMax pla and I’ve had several rolls in the past stink 10x what other rolls smell like. Print all of that roll and try something else, (or remove it and try a different color and or Brand. The carbon filters help slightly. But not always with all odors.
I will say new printers definitely off gas quite a bit of smell initially, but goes away over time. The carbon filter helps a bit, but in reality isn’t the greatest solution. Especially since the chamber fan is off when printing ABS/ASA, where you could really use it.
Your solution is basically what I did too. I designed and printed a magnetic vent mount that goes out my window and I’ve not had any more issues with smell. Some PLA smells more than others, so I figured I’d vent those too and it’s definitely helped.

I also have a Bambu Lab P1S (for 2,5 months) and I think I have the exact same odor… I’m glad I’m not the only one, the weird thing is that even when I’m not printing the odor is there and when I start printing the odor spreads in my room because of the chamber fan.
