Im in the middle of replacing the XY belts because it was fraying in areas and I could see copper along most of the edges of the belts. However, im looking at the new belts and they are showing significant amounts of copper too. Is copper showing on the belts normal? Or did I get a bad new set of belts. I’ve attached photos of the new belts.
I don’t recall seeing these copper lines on any of my X1C belts, and I don’t have a P1S for reference, but looking at the guide to replace the XY belt, it does look like copper is showing on the belts.
My “guess” would be that it is part of the manufacturing process. Timing belts are generally made (my understanding anyway) from 2 or 3 layers and then trimmed to width. The copper colored component is probably the Tensile cord (the embedded reinforcement) material edge showing.
