Is my new P1S camera out of focus?
That looks perfectly fine to me. What I do see is motion blur from the toolhead. The rest of the parts look about as good as that camera can capture. That’s what you want to key in on. Try increasing the lighting over the printer and do a side-by-side comparison. Make sure your toolhead is stationary before taking the comparison shots.
Also, since you didn’t mention the source of your screengrab - if it’s from Handy - that’s not really a fair comparison. Make sure the screengrab is taken from a full-resolution image from the slicer directly from your desktop PC.
Note: The P1 series has a 720p camera, while the X1 has a 1080p. So yes, if you’re comparing it to the X1, the P1 will look degraded. Also note that the best frame rate you’ll get out of the P1 is 5 fps, which causes visible motion blur when the toolhead is moving.
The part I’d key off in your image is this section. Here’s what mine looks like:
I also use auxiliary LED lighting, which helps the camera’s image sensor. It doesn’t need to be bright - just more even than the default lighting on the P1. In fact, for some filament colors like silk, lower light actually works better as long as it’s even.
I think the 720p/1080p setting only affects the X1C video recorded on the SDcard. I cannot see a difference when viewing live in Studio, but 1080p is noticeably sharper when viewing the SDcard files in a large window. I think the live feed is always 720p, regardless of the setting.
I only record in 720p. The extra resolution of 1080p just shows the limitations of the camera (depth of field is poor) without providing significantly better detail. I view the recordings only rarely, to see exactly when models have begun to failed, so 720p is sufficient.
From a 1080p recording with LED lights around the interior perimeter of the riser:
Screen grabs like this probably should not be directly compared since window size and screen resolution will be different, but you can see that even well-lit 1080p is not really sharp.
Look fine to me as well.
If you are into photography, you’d know it’s just the art of lighting. Same same for what you have there.
