hey there everyone , I’m still pretty new to 3d printing and I just had a question about printing with PLA-CF.
I got a spool of this filament when I purchased my printer and figured that I could use it as I’ve seen online that its one of the easier filaments to print with.
however the first time I used it , it was not sticking to the first layer of PLA-MATTE white ivory so I had stopped the print. I tried to use the PLA-CF on its own to test it out however I keep getting the error on the slicer saying that I need to fix the issues before I can proceed to use it.
the error was stating that I need to replace my nozzle.
In that case I went to the Bambu lab website to see if the nozzle I have would be able to print this filament and it says that it can but I cant seam to get passed the error that the slicer brings up.
I don’t know if I need to get a different kind of nozzle and other parts or is the P1S with the stock nizzle and parts should still print the CF filament.
If anyone can please point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Provide some more information that you skirt past.
- Printer = P1S (assuming)
- Build Plate type = ?
- Nozzle Size = ? (0.2, 0.4, 0.6 or 0.8)
- Nozzle Type = ? (stainless steel/hardened steel)
- When did you last clean your build plate = ?
- Did you use warm water and soap = ?
- Do prints with basic PLA also fail since you received the warning = ?
- What is the EXACT warning you received = ?
-
Printer = P1S
-
Plate = Bambu smooth PEI plate
-
Nozzle size = 0.4
-
Nozzle type = stainless
-
I have not cleaned my build plate , I have been using it as is right out of packaging.
-
I do not have any issues with any of my PLA filaments sticking to my smooth and my textured build plates.
-
Exact warning I get is as follows
-
- CF/GF filaments are hard and brittle, It’s easy to break or get stuck in AMS, Please use with caution.
-
- The nozzle hardness required by the filament is higher than the default nozzle hardness of the printer. Please replace the hardness nozzle or filament, otherwise , the nozzle will be attrited or damaged.
-
3.printing PLA-CF material with stainless steel nozzle may cause nozzle damage.
-
Please fix the error above, otherwise printing cannot continue.
Your error tells you the problem and the solution.
PLA-CF requires a hardened steel nozzle; you have a stainless steel nozzle.
You should swap the nozzle on the printer to a hardened steel one and then set that change into the device tab of the printer or Bambu Studio.
Then, it will print without issue.
okay thanks I just wasn’t sure if the nozzle that came with the printer was a hardened one of just a stainless steel one. thanks for clearing it up for me.
Annoyingly not, the P series comes with a standard steel nozzle.
I recently swapped mine out.
You should also consider swapping out the stainless steel gears for hardened steel ones. These will also wear down when using materials that require hardened steel nozzles.
I have tremors and still managed to swap them out.
I need to do the remaining three P1S printers, which is a job for this weekend.
I recommend the more expensive COMPLETE hot end as it only requires two cables unplugged and a couple of screws removed and replaced in reverse.
Unlike the COMPLETE hot end, the standard version requires far more effort to replace. I wouldn’t wish the extra effort on anyone; it is annoying, time-consuming and messy.
