Hi, I’ve had a P1S printer with AMS for about 3 months. Everything was going perfectly, I’d only opened the extruder to remove a stuck filament (making sure I did everything right step by step). Then I changed the nozzle to a hardened steel one for a project with wood PLA. After that, I kept using regular PLA and had no problems, until… One day, out of nowhere, it started making a very loud noise every time the printer purged (when changing colors), with a clapperboard-like sound, but very loud, so much so that with the printer closed, it wouldn’t let me sleep (I have it located in my living room, separated from my bedroom by a door). I really looked for someone else who had my problem, but no one related to it, or to the specific sound my printer makes. I’m leaving a video recording to see if anyone can identify it. Please Help me.
Did you run a machine calibration after working on the extruder and changing hot ends? Check the mounting screws for your hot end to make sure they are tight.
I can’t really relate to clapperboard but is it intermittent or continuous?
Is your AMS on top of the printer? Reason I ask is I had to replace the primary feeder in the AMS and it made a very loud rattling noise which was either the gears in the feeder slipping by each other or the wheels that grab the filament grating on the filament. So just covering all the bases.
Definitely check the two screws that hold the nozzle in place below the printer. Will it still print even with the noise? In the printer, The noise would likely be coming from the extruder but if the nozzle is misaligned and it is trying to force the filament into the possibly misaligned nozzle the wheels that grip the filament could be slipping creating the noise.
Yep. i did the calibration and then made sure to tighten the screws every time I made any technical changes to the machine.
Only when the printer changes color, right after purging, the fan turns on strongly, it moves to clear the debris from the roller, and the sound appears right at that moment (it sounds three times in sequence, or sometimes twice, but only at that moment).
Perfect, I’ll check the AMS because it’s actually on top of the printer. I’m going to check if the nozzle is misaligned, but I don’t think so, because I checked yesterday and everything looked fine. I even cut a piece of filament and sent it to print and everything was fine. No extra sounds are produced during printing, only when purging. I’m going to check the AMS as you told me and I’ll let you know if the problem is solved! Thank you very much!
The AMS gets a pretty good workout on a multi-color print. It has to push the filament from the AMS to the extruder and depending on how big the loops of PTFE are that can be a good length of filament.
Then to change color it cuts the filament right above nozzle and pulls it all back to the AMS.
The only “clapperboard-like sound” that I hear in the video is the nozzle hitting the wiper, which is normal.
