I’m completely baffled by this issue. I have a P1S with AMS, I’m using Fusion 360 for modeling/CAM, Bambu Studio Version 1.10.2.76, and have tried with multiple filament colors.
The problem I’m running into, is that the print comes out perfect if there is no chamfer (a very slight chamfer) on the model. If the chamfer is there, as shown in the picture, the letters (whether text or SVG) come out “stringy”.
No, text is flat (extruded -0.4, then extruded 0.4 back as a new body).
Sorry, I should have specified, there is a slight chamfer on the backside (top while printing) of the top edge, not on the text.
Will try to upload them, thank you for the response. Normally I can go layer by layer and figure things out, but the 2 prints look identical in the slicer, aside from the chamfer of course.
The offset to the inside won’t make it beautiful as for the text color it is printed into the air. Usually you print upside down to have a uniform surface (textured).
I guess it would look better on one layer with no offset to the inside.
Or turn it around. Or make inserts for the text letters that you print separately?
Yeah, it’s strange, both of the prints are using the exact same settings on the slicer, and while scrubbing thru the layers, I noticed that the text color filament gets printed recessed back (it doesn’t start to print until layer 3). Oddly, it shows the object as flat in Prepare tab.
Based on your original post, I decided to try another approach on the model, and instead of extruding (cutting) and then extruded to a new body, I’m extruding the text out 0.001 and joining, rather than creating a new body. The slicer now has the second filament on all layers. The print will be finished in about 10 minutes, and I’ll update when that’s done.
I think, based on looking at the layers in the slicer, you may have clued me in on what the problem was.
As I have had hughe issues with text in the past, nowadays I always make sure to have my flush text as a modifier object. In that way, I avoid any issues regarding minimal offsets ruining my prints.
Also, I usually use the Arachne wall generator and a concentric pattern for the modifier text as this minimizes jerk issues and allows for finer details.
I have also found 0.4mm to mostly be sufficient for opacity but have not had extreme cases (white on black).
Eno, thank you for the reply, in my case it wasn’t that issue, but I do appreciate the reply, and will check into those ideas as well.
Don, Thank you very much for your initial reply, that fixed it, by modifying the way I extrude. I only wanted the extrude to make it easy to pain the other filament color onto the layer.
For anyone else who runs into this in the future: Instead of extruding and cutting into the body, then extruding back out with new bodies, extrude the text or svg out 0.001mm, that will allow you to paint it easily, as it detects it as another layer, but because it’s so small, it doesn’t “stick out” when slicing it.
While I’m marking this as the solution (not sure if I can mark both as solutions), all credit goes to Don who helped me look into why it wasn’t printing on the first layer.
