Printer Model: P2S Combo (New, ~5 days old).
AMS Version: AMS 2 Pro.
My Experience Level: Newbie
Initial Issue: I have been using the printer heavily for 5 days with great success. Recently, I received a “failed to feed” notification during a print. The filament in Slot 4 had disconnected from the tool head, seemingly due to snapping, the end was now inside the AMS and it would now not feed back into the printer.
Troubleshooting Performed:
-
Checked Path: Disconnected the rear PTFE tube and cleared a piece of broken filament. Verified the internal AMS tube was clear.
-
Isolated the Issue: I swapped filament spools, and the failure follows Slot 4 specifically. Slots 1, 2, and 3 are working perfectly.
Observation: When Slot 4 attempts to engage (or when I manually roll it), the feeder gear makes a distinct grinding noise that is not present on the other slots.
History: Slot 4 had worked successfully for previous prints before this started, though I am unsure if the grinding had been there previously.
Current Behavior: When I feed filament into Slot 4, it grabs briefly but doesn’t travel far. It then retracts for a long period, ultimately not loading the filament stuck retracting.
Media: Here is a video showing the grinding noise.
Questions:
-
Is the Slot 4 feeder gear grinding a known issue on the AMS 2 Pro units?
-
Is there a way to clear this feed then retract behaviour, or does the grinding indicate a stripped gear/hardware failure?
-
Since the unit is only 5 days old, should I open a support ticket for a replacement feeder?
Any help much appreciated!
