P2S upgrade to dual head?

I’m new to 3D printing but not to building PC’s.

I purchased my P2S just weeks before I saw comments about dual head units for $100 more - I would have gone for that. It also seemed to me that it wouldn’t be a big action to change the head and mainboard to upgrade a P2S.

Now with the comments about the quality of printing from the “auxiliary” head, and the easy application of dual or tri color filaments - I’m less concerned, but it would be an interesting project.

I understand that current BL customers may have had prewarning about Dual Head, but now I would be concerned that the next week would introduce a new improved version. Yes, that’s a risk with any product but dual head for + $100…. So, I’ll stick with my P2S and if I do jump, I will do analysis of other Multi -head systems.

Dual or even more heads is an intriguing idea. Seems it could really cut down on the poop factor from changing colors. I printed a mini Jesus figure for my Son and was really shocked at how much filament was wasted by changing colors in the figurine.

Being a single snozzel beginner, I did discover taking a file and moving parts to additional plates, then selecting the color if I wanted to change them. (Ie: I printed out some Grogu (Yoda’s) and made two eye themes, Glow or Black for the Grandkids.) I am nowhere near being able to write nor change settings or code to fine tune what I find to work with. That one multi-colored Jesus figurine taught me a lot about how much can be wasted by a single print.

I would think a Quad Nozzle head would be great for use with an AMS. 4 colors, 4 nozzles. But have no idea how the software end would be accomplished. My computer building days are far behind me now.

I did find this for you to ponder over. Dual Extruder 3D printers.

Less poop, more goop.

I recommend you do not change the p2s main board and toolhead most likely it won’t work because of the mixed parts it will be like having an apple board inside of a Samsung Bambu lab printers are designed differently from each other but still even if it worked the x2d has many more parts like a left fan and heater and a different purge shoot and the place where it switches left or right nozzle it will be too much work and it will cost a lot but the dual nozzle only saves filament when printing in only 2 colors and mostly you won’t print only 2 colors if more colour the purge amount won’t change from a p2s and the right nozzle gets filament from an auxiliary extruder which has a drop on quality

BBL machines aren’t kit style like many of the other brands.

If you want a different BBL machine, sell your curent one to buy the you want.

If you like tinkering with kits and upgrades there are plenty of brands where you can do that. I went with BBL because I’m tired of tinkering 3D printers.
