P2S V01.02.00.00 Timelapse location defaults to Internal

I have not had this firmware long on my P2S - but the timelapse video functionality is broken for me.

The default location is now set to “Internal” for Timelapses, which means that you can no longer view timelapses from Bambu Studio (which only shows “External” storage).

The Wiki describes this - and tells you how to copy a timelapse from Internal to External storage - which you can only do on the printer.

This is a big problem - because I’m not going to the printer and scrolling around on the tiny screen, to copy and delete files - just so that I can download/view them on my computer. I have a USB plugged in for a reason.

I understand, if there is no USB - save them to Internal, but if there is, why not save them there?

The Wiki says that if you start the print from Bambu Handy, you can select the destination for the timelapse, but this is not yet available on Bambu Studio. I literally just downloaded two updates to Bambu Studio, and still cannot select the destination or see the timelapse files.

In my case, I’m using FTP to copy the latest timelapse to my NAS for viewing, but this is now broken, as FTP expects the files to be on the USB, not Internal.

There should be a way of setting the default location for timelapse files in the printer firmware, and/or a default location in Bambu Studio.

So, right now, timelapse videos are unusable for me.

I hope Bambu fixes this soon…

Guess bambu is funneling you towards Handy. Resistance is futile. Lol. They lost me on no SD card … wifi only. Your wifi goes down, your P2S follows. Lol. Turn the house wifi off & watch ‘em go crazy !

Hey man, I had the same problem. Was looking for it in Bambu studio and found it!

In handy app its obvious but in Bambu studio when you sliced it and press print it gives the option for a timelapse. Next to the word timelapse theres an envelop icon and if you click it you can choose internal or external storage. Hope it helps!

I understand your worry, but they just replaced the SD card with a USB stick, so the P2S will work just fine without WiFi. If anything it’s better for sausage fingers.

Wow! You are absolutely right!

What an obscure place to put the selection. Just trying it now. Not sure if you have to select this on every print, or if it’s stored with the project.

I still think you should be able to set a default for the printer somewhere.

UPDATE:

I think I have found out something crucial. If your USB drive is full - you don’t get a notification or anything, but the timelapse files switch to “Internal”. If you force select “External” for timelapse when you send, then the printer starts printing - then the printer hangs - and the print is unrecoverable.
The solution is to realize (with no messages/errors) what is happening - delete some files off the USB - then the default location for timelapse goes back to “External”, and all is OK!

I thought the issue was the new firmware - but no, it was just a coincidence - my USB drive was full.

Its annoying but bambu wiki says it will be supported to watch internal storage timelapses in subsequent version of bambu studio.

I think better solution will be menu settings, where you can choose default storage. Whatever…

I really doubt storage space is the problem. I have a 64gb drive plugged in and it has 95% free space. I simply think the firmware on the printer should have a setting of which storage to prioritize for timelapses, with an option for software to overwrite with each print start.

I do the same thing was looking for why my timelapse were missing, purchased a large thumb drive just for that purpose.

We need a setting to just make every thing save external

It’s ridiculous that you can’t change the default storage location. If you have a USB inserted, it should just default to that or at least give you the option to choose.
