First time printing PAHT-CF in my life. I wonder if anyone has any success getting way without glue stick? the part warp after just 5 layers.
Reason to ask is just I don’t really had hard time washing the glue away from the texture PEI plate, not a fan of glue
I use visions minors glue and that will last a good 10 prints or so. If not purple glue stick takes me like 2 minutes extra to remove under the sink. Only other option is to get a plate made for nylons.
Hard to get visions minors glue in my area, I guess I will have to stick with the sink. No good nylon plate for H2D so far?
I’m waiting for my BIQU Glacier plate, supposed to be great with PA with no glue or else: BIQU Panda BuildPlate CryoGrip Pro for Bambu X1/P1/A1/A1 mini/H2D Prin – Biqu Equipment
Just printed this Benchy in PAHT-CF on the smooth plate with vision miners. I had to wait until it cooled down to remove it. It was stuck really good.
Received my BIQU gryogrip pro glacier and I made 2 testprints 1 with PA6-GF and 1 with PAHT-CF without any adhesive. Just a small box 100mmx40mmmx20mm. Both held on the plate and both finished. I have warping on PA6-GF, not with PAHT-CF.
I will try to tune the profile of the PA6 which I think part fan is too high but pleased with the PAHT-CF result for now with default settings. I hate glue as well so it’s good but I have to test print bigger part before I can say I’ve got a winner.
Print with glue or without? Glacier plate?
I’m curious to know this as well with the glacier. On my old printer with a real garolite plate that I made I could print without glue with any nylons.
Small models can usually be printed without glue, but as soon as you go larger, you’ll need glue regardless of the build plate — at least in my experience. I can print a 3DBenchy or something about twice that size without any adhesive. For anything bigger, I use Magigoo Original, Magigoo PA, or my latest addition, Magigoo Supergrip, depending on the build plate surface.
So far, I’ve printed around 6 kg of PAHT-CF on the H2D.
I tried unsuccessfully to print PAHT-CF on my X1C using the Textured PEI plate and it would not stick. I switched to the smooth plate and used the Bambu liquid glue and it stuck the first time. It was about 150mm x 150mm flat model and peeled after the first layer. I had read that others printed this filament with the Textured PEI plate but maybe the size of the model plays a bigger factor.
To get PAHT-CF to stick to a textured plate I have use either Elmers Purple glue STICK or Vision Minors nano polymer liquid glue. Bambu liquid glue does not work well for me with the textured plate and nylon.
Vision Minors is my go to now. It sticks well, is only a few dollars more than bambu liquid glue. I can use it for 10+ prints without re-applying. Leaves very little residue on the part after the first part is printed.
Try Magigoo PA - you can find it all over the world. It’s made specifically to work with PA materials. It’s water soluble and doesn’t smell = less chemicals in the air
I thought I read that it’s not recommended to use glue on PEI plates.
Don’t need glue for PLA and PETG i get away with ABS and small PAHT-CF without glue as well but big flat PAHT CF definitely needs so kind of adhesive to hold the first layer
Glue may not be necessary on PEI, but it can be used to improve adhesion. I also like it as insurance that a print does not stick too hard to remove. (I’m looking at you, TPU) I just default to using glue for everything so I don’t need to remember what filament/plate combos need it and which do not.
I’m having good results with a spray bottle of Elmer’s glue stick dissolved in 91% IPA, sprayed and spread on the plate.
No particular glue/IPA ratio, the glue chunks stop dissolving when the solution is saturated. Add IPA as the solution is used, add glue when the chunks disappear.
Fairly cheap, evaporates quickly, leaves minimal or no glue marks on smooth plates, no chunking on textured plates. Also seems to seal the occasional fingerprint if I don’t want to take time to wash the plate.
I just did a 40 hour print with glue stick and no warping. Have you tried hot water? I have never had a problem getting it off, I normally use a large buckt of some sorts so it can sit submerged while I sponge it off
