PAHT-CF - Uneven quality

Hi there,

I am trying to print with PAHT-CF filament but the humidity makes it hard to achieve good results.
I dried it for 24h at 50 °C in a filament dryer. The indicated RH is around 15%. It improves a bit but it is still unsatisfactory. I cannot go above that temperature with that dryer.

However, I noticed that the quality improved on “short” or “quick” layers, as you can see on the picture.

Why is that? I would expect the quality to remain the same regardless of time spent printing a layer.

I am printing it directly out of the dryer running. Would drying it before through the X1C help?

Thanks for the help.

Drying in the X1C is not convenient because it prevents its use as a printer, but it is effective. The X1C bed gets much warmer than your dryer, so I would give it a try,

If you have a digital scale, weighing your spool is the best way to tell if the filament is truly dry. The spool will stop losing weight when the moisture is gone.

On short runs, the nozzle cannot travel fast because there is only a short distance for acceleration. That may be why the short runs look better.

Thanks your reply.

I will try drying it with the printer to see if that helps. If not I’ll try reducing printing speed.

Do you have a filament dryer to recommend that can go up to 80 °C ?

I checked the velocity from the slicer, it looks like it reaches nominal speed instantly, is it reliable or it is ignoring the acceleration/transient speed?
