Trying to print two halves of a part and am running into support problems. Using the auto Tree supports is clearly not going to work, as the slats are too fragile to not be supported, but it does support the other overhangs well enough.
I’m having trouble judging angles in the screenshots. Is the surface where supports are not generated actually at 90° to the plate or is it leaning slightly away from the support?
Supports are usually under the model and it is only recently that Studio began generating supports for vertical surfaces. I don’t think it will build a support if the support is actually somewhat on top - surface more than 90° to the plate.
You’re right in thinking that those surfaces are at 90 degrees to the buildplate. While I understand that auto tree generation will not work for vertical surfaces, what’s the point of having manual supports if you can’t force the software to comply? The auto tree generation isn’t infallible, and sucks at tall thin parts in general. Being able to add supports where needed is kind of a basic need for 3D anything beyond the typical doo-dad.

Manual supports for 90° surfaces DO work (since Studio v1.10), They are great for tall, thin, wobbly surfaces. They do not actually touch the model, so they do not scar the surface. They just keep the extruding filament from dragging the model around. But if the surface is more than 90° to the build plate, supports will not be generated.

Interesting. I had assumed that manual painted supports would be generated regardless of angle. My resin printing slicer is like that, but I guess Bambu is different. Thanks for that info.
