Painting Layer Across Text Causes Wrong Wall Colors

I have inset some text (as a negative part) and painted the layers that it cut away in a contrast color:

Here is what should be the last grey layer of the print:

But when I slice the object it seems to be putting grey walls inside the text cutout. How do I fix this so that ALL the final layers are only white?:

The more I poke around with this the more it feels like a bug, can anyone confirm that this is intended behavior?

Set “Top Wall Count” (I think that’s what it’s called) to 1.
