Parametric Model Maker V1.1.0 - Major UI Refresh

Hi everyone, we’re thrilled to announce the release of Parametric Model Maker v1.1.0! This is a significant update focused on improving the user experience for everyone. We’ve completely redesigned the platform’s interface from the ground up to be more intuitive, powerful, and beautiful.

A Fresh New Look: The Redesigned Interface

The first thing you’ll notice is the brand-new look and feel. We’ve moved away from the old layout to introduce a more modern and user-friendly experience.

  • New Home Page: Say goodbye to the “Community” pop-up! We now have a dedicated home page that beautifully showcases trending, most downloaded, and latest models. This provides much better visibility for your creations and makes discovery easier for all users.

  • Redesigned Editor: The model customization page has been completely refactored. It’s not just about looking better; it’s about being more functional. Users can now easily view the model’s description, see stats, and engage with comments, all within a cleaner, more organized layout.

For Our Creators: Key Changes to Your Workflow

While the platform looks different, all the powerful features you rely on are still here—we’ve just adjusted their access points to create a cleaner interface. Here are two important changes to note:

  1. Code Editor Location

To provide a simpler experience for users who only need to adjust parameters, the code editor for OpenSCAD models is now collapsed by default.

  • How to Access: When viewing a model that allows code editing, you will now see a Code button on the left-hand panel. Clicking this will open the familiar code editor, allowing you to make and save your changes.
  1. Testing Your Models Before Upload

Testing your local .scad files is now more streamlined. We’ve integrated this functionality into the new Creator Panel.

  • How to Access: Click on the Creator Portal button on the top navigation bar. From the dropdown menu, select Open SCAD File. This will take you to the editor where you can load and test your model directly in our environment before you decide to upload it.

OpenSCAD and Libraries Updated

To ensure you have access to the latest features and bug fixes, we have updated our backend engine.

  • OpenSCAD Version: We are now running a version based on commit c8fbef05ba900e46892e9a44ea05f7d88e576e13.

  • BOSL2 Library: The popular BOSL2 library has been updated to version 99fcfc6867e739aa1cd8ffc49fe39276036681f1.

This update is all about building a better foundation for the future of Parametric Model Maker. We believe these changes will make it easier for users to discover and customize your amazing work, and for you to create and test your models more efficiently. We can’t wait to see what you create with these new tools!

Happy modeling!

I like the design and that you updated the BOSL lib, but why I can’t increase the width of the editor window anymore?
Now it’s really hard to develop with the parametric model maker and I have to develop with this tool, otherwise I wouldn’t see when my project is to big and I run into the timeout while generating.
I hope you can change it back again.

@PineappleBun_BBL is there a single location to easily find information about all the changes?

Is this a single location containing all the documentation?

A year or so ago I asked for a list that we could see of all the fonts and their typefaces available along with previews, I haven’t seen this yet. This amounts to a web page or a PDF resource that is greatly required.

I love this solution, it is great work and powerful, the colour integration is commendable, but the documentation is lacking.

It hurts new and seasoned developers alike.

I found the new interface this moorning and I really like how compact it looks.
Good job

The “new” startpage (not the generatorpage) is deeply disappointing — in fact, it feels like a major step backward.
It’s hard to believe that a UI designer approved this layout; whoever made these decisions should seriously reconsider their approach to usability and user experience.
The single-page structure is frustrating and impractical. Why isn’t there at least an option to use a paged layout — something every well-designed interface allows? And why can’t generators be opened in a new window with a simple left-click?
Performance is another major issue. Recalculations after parameter changes take ages. It almost feels like the interface was designed to waste time. Adding more delays would only mean we could finish not just making coffee but baking a whole cake before updates appear.
Also, changes to parameters should update automatically, without requiring an extra click on “Generate.”
Considering how many talented programmers share their outstanding work here, it’s hard to believe there’s not at least one great UI or web designer around. Why not ask some of these professionals for input?
Major UI Refresh? my ■■■… :face_vomiting:

It’s a bit AI slop but I’m trying to collate every piece of information I can get about the PMM with my agents into this GitHub repo for my agents to use against my OpenSCAD projects.

https://github.com/nelsonjchen/unofficial-makerworld-parametric-model-maker-openscad-docs#why-this-exists

Main doc for PMM specifics: unofficial-makerworld-parametric-model-maker-openscad-docs/docs/pmm-openscad-api.md at main · nelsonjchen/unofficial-makerworld-parametric-model-maker-openscad-docs · GitHub

I feel even if you are doing OpenSCAD by hand, being able to refer to this might be helpful, especially due to the underdocumentation.

Oh my, I didn’t read the sentence after you asked about documentation.

Since the agent stuff already did a lot of automated reverse engineering, I took the “Be the change you want to be” mantra and made it make the fonts and typefaces with previews and massaged things a bit:

Does that work? It was just a line item I threw in. There are definitely soft spots in it.

Let me know what you think @MalcTheOracle .

When will the next update of bosl2 library be? I would like to use some of the newer features

I think there has been some recent update and now the models using the “plate_” logic are failing to generate. @MakerWorld @PineappleBun_BBL
