Hi, I’m a fairly small designer, I do it when I get a chance. I’ve been popular enough to fund a couple of printers through points & I have a small side hustle selling prints (my own designs)
Recently I’ve had more people selling my designs on etsy, marketplace & a few requests to sell them. So far everyone has taken down their listings on request but as there appears to be a market for some of my items I figure I should make the most of it.
So I figure patreon would be the best way to apply a commercial use license but it’s a bit of a thing to wade into. There’s the value I’d provide & exectations to patreons. Do any smaller creators have any advice or insights into having a patreon as a small creator? My life is busy & if I’m going to dedicate time & energy I’d like to do it well.

I started a commercial license through thangs in August. All the people who are signed up, I have talked to personally to let them know they shouldn’t expect X models per month. Basically all they get is a right to sell physical prints. I probably need to word my description on thangs alittle better so everyone understands it. I was getting alot of interest for a commercial license and to just stop the questions I just started linking to it in the models posted here. Now I don’t get questions. I also make some easy money off of it as well. Obviously not as much as I would make selling physical prints.

I don’t have the reach that you have but we seem to have had the same experiences.
I’ve gone ahead & set up a patreon (and a buymeacoffee because why not)
I have a bit of legwork to do to make it all tie together. I searched a bunch of creators & I went with this NSprints | Mostly for fun | Patreon
Good to hear. It’s definitely good to follow the wording on a Patreon that already exists as long as it lines up with what you want.
As far as pricing goes I went higher than the big patreons because I don’t have that many people wanting mine. Everyone sort of expects $10 for commercial license but one guy has sold 200 of my prints at about $25-$50 a piece. And I’m sure they can right off the cost of my membership.

If you don’t mind sharing – what did you end up charging for the subscription? And how many models is included? I’m thinking of setting one up, would include about 110 models to start with more added every month. Debating on $10 vs $15 etc
$10 tier and $25 tier. All my models. $10 tier is local says only. If you want to do Etsy or anything online is $25. I think the key for me now is posting consistently.
Definitely but at the same time people are putting a ton of work in to just give designs away. The person on my $25 tier has sole over 1,000 deck boxes this year on Etsy alone. They can sell from $29-$150 per box. So I think that’s worth it for some.
