Pausing to change filament

Hey all,

I posted this on the BL Reddit group and didn’t get an answer…

I don’t know how to pause a print and then change a filament. Seems simple, but internet searches have come up empty.

I have a P2S running an HT. I know how to insert a pause by layer after slicing. But when I do that, the old filament is not able to be swapped out and is stuck in the extruder. If I put a change filament after slicing, the print does not stop and nothing happens.

What am I missing? TIA for your help!

You need to use change filament but you also have to define that second filament and select it for your filament change

Awe! So by selecting the other filament it will pause and let me swap?

I can’t answer this question off the top of my head right now, but I’ve always done it differently:

  • Set a manual pause in the slicer
  • Waited until the pause is active
  • Went to the printer: Press “Unload Filament”
  • Inserted the other filament and pressed “Load Filament”
  • Resumed printing

Because if I understand you correctly, that’s the problem here, right?

Then all you need to do is: “Unload” the filament - during the pause.

Surely there are several ways to solve the problem…

When I did a pause, the P2S would not let me change the filament on the screen, it was not an option unfortunately.

Are you inserting a “Change Filament” to a different filament via the slicer at the layer you want?

In the Preview tab after you have sliced, on the right hand side, right click on the green vertical scroll bar.

Thank you. I’ll have to try this now, tbh, I don’t recall if I did that…I know I paused the print and it wouldn’t let me change the filament on the screen. It would make sense if I did a change filament that it would let me unload and put a new roll in…this must just be user error and me not thinking through it… :man_facepalming:

I’m running a H2C with 3 AMS and figured I’d just run the AMS HT on the P2S but now I kind of want another AMS for the P2S at least to automatically run out rolls…

FYI the printer will pause when it runs out of filament and allow you to add more to continue the print. If your filament is getting low and you can’t be around when the filament actually runs out, simply cut the filament and then insert a new spool when it runs.
