What is your thought on PCTG? Is this a safe replacement over PETG for food safe use? I don’t mean to put hot foods, more with liquid, water, tools for foods.
As far I learned PETG is being replaced.
It’s down to to the additives used in the PCTG and the manufacturing process (the same obviously goes for PETG). For example, Fiberlogy produce a food safe version of PCTG.
Is your printer food safe though? Just guessing: Using a Bambu printer to produce stuff with (any) food safe filament doesn’t make a food safe end result - at least not at a level that you could sell the prints as food safe. I personally wouldn’t worry much about it for personal use (I’m chock full of lead, creosote, phenoxyacetic acids and asbestos anyway, never mind the Cesium-137) but I wouldn’t print stuff such as a food container or a drinking bottle.
Even if the filament is food safe the printer can have left over plastic that wasn’t food safe stuck in the nozzle also germs can get stuck into layer lines and other defects that make it harder to clean(if you’re reusing said part)

This is the 2nd mention I’ve seen today about PCTG replacing PETG Basic, I’m SO FREAKING JAZZED!!! I’ve heard many good things about PCTG and a friend who’s an Ender user swears by it for his work prints. If Bambu does this it’ll be a game changer for the filament in general since there’s so few vendors selling colors and with any shipping infrastructure. That said, the PETG Basic discontinuation notification was UPDATED with:
“Note: PETG Basic is discontinued and will not be restocked once sold out. A new and improved PETG is coming soon. Stay tuned!”
So it may be in addition to a newer PETG formula? or are they intending it as a 1:1 replacement? hybrid? MyTechFun just did a rather poor resulting test of PETG and BBL’s was the worst in every test except layer adhesion.
