Imo this goes further than just the general dissatisfaction many are having with the new Basic.
Short ver:
Since the discontinuation of HF I’ve only printed new Basic Grey(30107) and Dark Beige(30403), both offered similar finishes to the old HF - scatter light no matter the angle. Not matte, but nice.
But Basic Yellow(30402) has, across multiple batches, consistently the same oily finish - TPU 95HF level oily, in all kinds of indoor lighting. All samples are sliced the same - full manual calibration vs. all default, same models vs. simple cubes, I’ve tested everything - same night-n-day contrasts. (Grey, not as good as Dark Beige, but nowhere near Yellow bad)
Longer contexts:
Temp: Non-factor. I normally print higher, but default 245C also produced exactly the same differences;
Calibration: Bed, vision, flow rate, pressure advance, shrinkage, blast oven, freshly bone dried, EVERYTHING, and consistent across all test pieces.
Model Geometry: Tested on the same models, tested on Cubes, Boxes, no differences.
“across multiple batches”: Yellow(30402) with batch number ending in D, and now ending in H, no differences.
Urgent Request
If you have printed other new Basic colors and noticed similar inconsistency across colors please let me know. I plan to return those Yellow for another color so really curious on what colors aren’t also plagued by it ↓ .
I’m not looking alternative PETGs yet, Basic’s Dark Beige have served me well, little complaints about it…. but Dark Beige…. just kind of tired of it after the 30th roll lol.
I suspect that some additives must have been missing for yellow, for every batches, for no good reason as HF yellow had none of this mess, but CS “filament specialist” insists on those being micro-differences across batches…. sure, they’ll only give boilerplate non-answers.
