I’ve heard a lot of good things about PETG HF and though I’d give it a go so I added a roll to my last order from Bambu Labs. I have a design for a coffee knock box which slips on top of a Milo tin. It’s a two part design with the knock shaft being separate to the top as I anticipated that this would need to be replaced from time to time due to the repeated impacts it is subject to. Anyway that’s another story…
I opened the new real and unsealed it popped in on my A1 printer and set it to print.
- Yes I now know that I’m supposed to dry out the PETG HF prior to use.
The print came out surprisingly bad. It was stringy and furry, some of the outer layers even got dragged off the print during the routine bed homing. I even broke the part in half taking it off the print plate (I was impatient in having a look at it : ( ). The print settings were all stock.
The next morining after some reading about PETG HF I changed the speed of the outer wall to 100 and also reduced the inner wall to 200 (default settings are 200 and 300 respectively). Re-sliced the model and printed.
Although there were some slight imperfections the print came out really well. Even though there was clear evidence of moisture in the filament as could be seen on the test strip.
Next time I will dry out the filament prior to use, considering this requirement I’m not sure if I need to worry about sealing the roll when not in use? Any advice would be appreciated.
Never posted pictures on this forum, so hopefully they will be OK.
