PETG-HF stringing and cracked prints

I’m fairly new to printing but have had few problems with PLA prints with minor tweaks here and there based on recommendations of others. I recently got PETG-HF for some wearable prints and have been having several issues.

I’ve solved a few by changing settings but i keep running into the print cracking at the same spot even changing orientation twice.

Is this a humidity/drying issue or is this something that should be fixed by slicing / settings?

My first guess is bed adhesion. Moisture can affect that but there are very small support areas under that print. I’d get more area between the support and build plate and be sure your build plate is actually clean. Maybe increase build plate temperature a little. Maybe use glue.

When I caught this happening live on my a1 it was because the thing being printed was wobbling and about to fall from not enough support.

While I can not see a loss of bed adhesion in your pic, there’s a some solid infill edge curling (besides the obvious cracking).
If in doubt, always dry PETG first. It may not completely resolve the issues, but resolving issues while the filament is wet is not a promising path to take.

Next come cooling settings. Are these the same as for the Generic PETG? Copy those. While looking at that, also consider slowing down. My main experience is with PETG Basic rather than HF though. With that, it was possible to get drastic improvements by printing below 100mm/s.

Other means to combat curling in this case are a reduced top layer count (which may lead to other issues though) and adaptive layer height to reduce the heat input per layer for more homogeneous cooling.
And if all else fails, PETG-CF has a better cool down behaviour.

I defintely had adhesion issues the first time on the smooth with glue and switched back to the textured which seemed to help alot. I’ll try adding glue to the texture plate and try again after cleaning it and running it through a filament dryer.

The cooling settings are the default bambu PETG HF settings. I have the plate temp set to 80 after reading some suggestions. I reduced most of the speeds but i could reduce the wall and infill speeds a bit too. The intial layer is at 40 with the infil at 80. Outer and inner were at 125 and 200.

I think the thorough cleaning (water + dishwashing liquid + stiff brush) is more important than the glue for the textured plate. If you need glue on that, then the plate is not doing its job and needs another rather thorough scrub. A dash of Isoprop can help if applied before the cleaning.
For the smooth plate, try a few lines of the PVA stick which are then distributed into an even film using a moist to wet paper towel. Works like a dream :smiley:

I have never had much luck with those. However, my experience is mainly with PETG Basic rather than PETG HF. I usually use these:

That can help with adhesion issues and slightly increase the build space temp. The latter is good against curling/warping but, with PETG, may lead to heat creep.

Again, my experience is mainly with the Basic PETG so take my advice with a pinch of salt.
If you already see issues with the first layer, you could reduce the first layer speeds a bit further. Or maybe only the infill to match the walls.
Similarly, the 125 may be just about OK for the outer wall but the inner seems a bit fast. Maybe try to use the outer wall speed for all printing speeds. It may be annoying to take longer, but that is not as annoying as taking even longer by having to print twice, thrice,…
