PETG on Aliexpress 3d Effects Sheet

Against all recommendations, I found that it is possible to print PETG-HF on a non bambu 3d effects sheet. I just printed an AMS Spool Adapter but came here to say it worked so give it a go.

And yet no pictures… Post a picture of this 3D effect

@CRracer712

Wow I could have swore I did. Thanks for the reminder

I have the same plate and some others.
Part of the claim that those cheap Chinese effect plates are no good is the fact that far too many users have no clue how to use them.

There is plenty of videos on Youtube and such showing how to use those plates and what the effect looks like on the printed part.
Try a few and pay attention when those print settings show up
Most have the textured Pei plate set and the first layer looks accordingly.
Adhesion fails too often because of this and users not settings things for a smooth plate.
But also because they fail to properly clean those plates.

Glue or glue stick is a no go as it means the effect is not transferred to the print properly.
Finding the best working temps is one thing.
Cleaning the plate after some prints or once you encounter issues another story…
Some of those stickers are surprisingly solvent resistant other just melt away.
Since it is never stated what works - don’t use solvents like acetone, MEK, heptane or such…
Don’t bother with IPA or ethanol either…
Use warm, soapy water and a non scratching sponge as you would on your dishes when things dried on a bit…
Make sure the water run off when rinsing even over the entire plate.
If not or against the light the plate shows areas of haze and such:
Use a microfibre cloth and window cleaner!
Spray onto the plate, wipe to create an even cover, then keep wiping until squeaky clean - you can hear it…
Window cleaner with a bit of ammonia (check the ingredients) works best.
And getting use to wear gloves when handling the plate, even if just those cheap white cotton ones really helps a lot - you leave marks with you hands more often than you realise…

One thing to consider with those effect plates is the filament you use and the intended usage of the print.
For example most PLA filaments have the effect quickly wear off by just gently rubbing your finger over the surface.
Great to look at if not used not so much if you want to impress with a phone cover or such that lives in your hip pocket…
It is micro-structure on the surface and with MICRO comes being sensitive.
I like them for more or less decorative prints like name plates/door signs or lids and walls for boxes.
For more demanding filaments and where just a smooth and shiny surface is the goal I use a FR99 sheet (same as FR10 and such) just in the Bambu shape.
