PEY and other textured build plates. Gimmick or cool?

Skip to time index 2:59 to get past his blabber and nonsensical sponsor promotion.

I’ll admit, the 3D holographic affect is kinda cool but where would one use this? Also, towards the end of the video, he kind of admits that the plates simply don’t do what plates are first supposed to do.

I’ve got a PET/PEO coming this weekend.
So, I can let you know in about a week.

I actually love them.

Of course you are mostly kind of limited to boxes or cases to a large extent and need to carefully consider on which face a pattern would make sense and apply a pattern to.

Definitely gave a couple of small christmas gifts a nice finishing touch this year and the effect is really looking astonishing.

Since they are quite affordable and mostly you get another structured PEI on the back side, no regrets buying so far, happy with the effects (especially the carbon one) and also quite happy with bed adhesion.

To make the effect even more prominent, I squash the first layer a little bit more on the plate by applying a Z offset of -0.02mm to it.

Gimmick or cool? Like with all non functional finish options, whatever floats your boat… ¯\(ツ)

I only have one of the “carbon fibre” plates and i really rate it. I do quite a lot of automotive pieces and it leaves a really nice surface finish. Apart from the finish, it also performs really well and is durable. The other side is gold textured PEI.

PEO is definitely super nice.
Would 100% recommend.

Plate came in today.
