PLA Filament Issue - Extruder clogging?

Hi - I’m new to the printing world and just got a X1C with a few filaments. I’ve dried all my filaments before using them and have been flawlessly printing several things but wanted to print a larger object using a gray filament. I’ve been using the default settings and it keeps failing on that one model, so I’ve tried a few smaller items and it also is failing. It’s a Bambu Lab PLA-Basic and is running through my AMS, but still seems to be failing very early on. I kept getting the error message that the extruder may be clogged, which led me down to looking into that to see if there was a clog. It mainly seems like it’s getting caught up at the nozzle when. Any suggestions? It does seem like it’s getting a bit more stringy than the other filaments I’ve been using.

Go for the hex key method. That is the most reliable in my experience.

Alternatively, you can replace the nozzle with the replacement that should have come with the printer.

Looks like you have the top roof panel, and the door closed.

With PLA you’ll want to open one or the other. (Most likely the door since you have AMS…)

I’ve tried that a few times and still have the same issue. I don’t think it’s a hotend issue either since it’s almost new and works with the other filaments. I can try swapping it out with the replacement and seeing if that works.

A clog can happen for a number of reasons. Nozzle age is not really a factor though.
If you use ironing, a clog can happen with lid and door closed. Without ironing, I always print fully closed to help against warping. Never had a clog with PLA from that.

You mention that all other filaments work fine. Is that before or after the initial clog?
If you had a flawless print with another filament after the clog, the root cause is probably the filament. You may want to check the diameter of a few 10’s of meters.

Why is it beneficial to open the door?

Keeps temperature in the chamber lower, which avoids PLA experiencing heat creep and clogging

Figured out my issue and it was nothing mechanical. The filament I was using had a bend about 18" in which I guess must have been causing issues with the feed. Once I cut that off, it has been working flawlessly. Thanks for the suggestions and tips though!
