Placing manual supports in a slot

I’m placing manual supports inside a narrow horizontal slot. That seems to be working fine. But it’s also building a support structure that extends out of the slot and down to the build plate. I can’t see how that adds anything when the entire support structure can be internal to the slot. Any tips on how I can get rid of the extra support structure?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Often changing the support type to “snug” will help.

If you upload the .3mf file it would provide more context.

Is “On Build Plate only” checked?

Nope. I did catch that one. It is building support within the slot, but also extending the support structure out of the slot and down to the build plate.

It looks like JonRaymond’s tip was exactly what I was looking for. But thanks for this.

Thanks! That looks like it did exactly what I wanted. I’m doing a print right now to test. But it looked right in the preview.

Here’s the original .3mf file…

knife section 3 with broad support.3mf (61.6 KB)

And here it is with the change you suggested…

knife section 3 with snug support.3mf (61.7 KB)

On a separate note…
I’ve been twiddling with 3D printing and 3D printers at the office for more than a decade. I just recently decided these things are becoming ready for primetime. So I got an A1 last week. HOLY MOLY - this thing is infinitely better than the stuff I’d been twiddling with for so long. And the forum support seems to be great too. I kind of figured I’d toss this question into the void and likely get no response. But I instantly got a couple of responses from folks that are pretty clearly familiar with the printer and settings.

Thanks again!
