Some time ago there was only a little bit filament remaining on the spool. I put an other spule of the same type in the AMS an configured to automatically switch. This worked very very great!
A few days ago I had a longer print job with some other filament. I believed it would be enough. But after about 4 hours I looked and uuff! Spool is nearly empty. But I had an other spool of the same type. I thought I could put it in an empty slot of the AMS and say: use this to continue. No chance
Even when pausing the print it was not possible to configure the filament.
I understand, that it could not recognize it automatically because some other spool was active, but why I can not tell it manually that this is the same type?
Finally I waited til the last part of filament was pulled in and pushed the beginning of the new spool immediately after that in the same slot. It worked.
(But after some minutes of printing the printer recognized the end of filament and said, it would clean the old filament. Then it used the new one. Why did it clean?)
Note: normally I dry new filament before usage. In this case I did not have the time to do this. But it was new and good sealed and fortunatly printed without problems.

If a spool runs out in the AMS, the printer will pause and prompt you to load another spool. You don’t have to be MacGyver trying to swap in another spool as it’s printing. You do however need to make sure the filament end isn’t taped or secured to the spool. I usually just snip the spool when the last coil is exposed to avoid any issues and then replace when prompted.

Next time Just let it Finish the spool till it stops. Then add the new Spool of the Same type. Must Not be same color.
Thank you! I suppose it is also somewhere documented, but in this situation I had not enough time to search.
But I still wish I could configure auto repalcement. Lets say I estimate that the remaining will last for about two hours and I want to go to sleep.
I am beyond frustrated. Spools get tangled, filament gets twisted and bent. Prints fail or pause. And the auto switch to other filament only works if it runs out NOT if there is a knot in the spool. You have to lie to the printer AMS and say there are the same type and color but cant edit mid print which is exactly when i need to do the switch. I cant load or unload filament through the settings.
What I want: Pause print and edit AMS settings. That way I can switch colors if I desire, and whatever you can purge the color switching into the infill or reduce waste.
