(This is my first real post after getting through “the process.”)
I have watched many youtube videos on 3d printing, looked at lots of software and printers, and settled on the Bambu X1C and am learning how to use FreeCad and Bambu Studio while awaiting my Fed Ex package on Friday with an X1C and AMS.
My Question: Can someone please explain what the “Lay on Face” command is supposed to do? I have created an object with inlayed Text. I want to flip it over and print it face down to optimize the surface. However when I hit “Lay on Face” the writing does not get reversed as I have seen on YouTube Videos. Is there some setting I am missing?
I can of course flip it over with “Rotate” and that seems fine.
Just so I understand the Lay on Face command, what is it supposed to do?
So far it’s been a good process to learn this new software.
It’s what the name says. When you select an object and then click at the Lay on Face, and then click at a face of the object, that face lays down on the build plate.
Scratching my head on this comment. Maybe something I’m misunderstanding. But… If I have text embossed on the top surface of a model, and I decide I want to print it face down so the topmost surface is nice and smooth, I just flip it over. Viewed from above it’s reversed, but if you rotate the slicer view so you’re looking at the build plate from the bottom, it won’t be reversed. That’s the side you’ll be looking at after the print is done, so it doesn’t need to be reversed.
You wouldn’t want the text to be reversed unless the text goes all the way through the model and you intend to display the top side after you flip it over. And if that’s what you’re doing, there’s no point in flipping it over to begin with.
BINGO! Thank you very much. DWDesigns. That “Click” on the face was the key. By the way are you Arthur’s sister? Bambu Lab Academy going to look there now. So much to learn.
RocketSled, yes the text goes all the way through, goal is to make switch panel with backlighting. Yes just flip it over was my answer and that is fine, I was just missing something on the “Lay on Face” command, and DWDesigns set me straight.
MalcTheOracle, I am very used to snark, so LOL to you.
Thank you all, there is so much good help on the InterWeb.
