Please stop deleting everything instantly

It’s that time again … Complaint time

I would like to say one thing up front: I am well aware that I am not important for MakerWorld. I also realize that my previous models have certainly not led to their success. I know that a possible withdrawal on my part will not impress anyone here. So don’t worry

Today, once again, a model has been taken down which, unfortunately, was not entirely unpopular. Apparently my remix should have had a different license than the original.

The problem is that everything is always deleted directly. I can’t check which license I had set. I also can’t check whether the original has changed its license. I tried again to create a remix, and there is no other option than to select exactly the same license. All other options are grayed out. I have always chosen the same license model for all my remixes, so if this was really different, it could only have been CC-BY-NC instead of CC-BY-SA. And even that would actually be a system error if I can’t choose anything else for a remix anyway. In any case, the differences between these licenses would be laughable enough to destroy everything.

And that brings me to the real problem: apart from all the subsequent penalties (only 11,000 points deducted anyway, how can you keep an account like that going?), this method also destroys all my work. My detailed description, assembly instructions, shopping list … and all the comments with help - all gone. You put hours and days of work into something that someone here simply erases without batting an eye.

Lots of people write to me to tell me where my model has gone because they are in the middle of printing it. And now not only the files are gone - but also the instructions. And I don’t take screenshots of my own stuff - I never thought I’d have to reconstruct it at some point. This not only punishes me, but also other members here.

You are accused, convicted, punished and at the same time all the evidence is destroyed. And all by a single person. Is that really the way you want to deal with your community here? And then you get the chance to make an appeal one (1) time. With 300 characters. And a photo as a MUST field (which photo should I upload, I can’t prove anything if you delete everything). This system is really more than just questionable.

You obviously already have a system that automatically recognizes which license the original has and thus prevents you from choosing something else for the remix. What do you think about using these great automatic systems to simply send out messages when a misalignment is detected? You only ever use AI to delete things or as a response system in tickets - why don’t you use it for something like that? EVERYONE would benefit from that. This system certainly has its weaknesses - and subsequent changes that you don’t always notice don’t make things any easier. I can’t check anything myself; I have to rely on what MakerWorld tells me.

The last time I came into contact with something like this, I was wrongly accused (because the AI couldn’t distinguish my photo from a computer image) - after many support ticket replies, this was also acknowledged and everything was taken back. Why should I now believe that this time it is different? Unfortunately, I don’t have any screenshots of my model - the last time this happened I had something like this. So a warning to everyone: screenshot your stuff - you might have to submit it as proof. Because AFTER the accusation, you will no longer have access to anything. And if you have a detailed description, write it in a word file or something.

I’m currently in the process of preparing the next two models. But I’ll think twice about publishing them now. My account here has been burned anyway. Until this is resolved - or at least I’ve slept on it - I’ve set my account to private.

But even if I stay here, I don’t really want to have to constantly save and screenshot my work somewhere because I’m constantly afraid that Makerworld will delete everything. What behavior is that? If it really was my fault (how the hell is anyone going to prove that?), then so be it and I’ll have to live with the -11,000 points.

But why are you destroying all that work - and taking away everything the other users wanted to print and rebuild? Everyone is under general suspicion and everything is destroyed. You are automatically an evil perpetrator. Then at least give me back my work, so that I can take it somewhere else where I won’t be treated like this.

TL;DR: @Makerworld, @SupportAssistant => PLEASE don’t always delete everything immediately! Set it to private and give people the chance to straighten something out - or at least let them save their work! MONTHS of community work together are simply gone. It’s not good advertising for MakerWorld, that anyone should invest even a minute of their time here - No matter what his contribution to the community looks like.

@MakerWorld @SupportAssistant I support Dextera 100%. If there was some kind of perceived breach of license the correct process is to give a warning to give the user the opportunity to rectify and at minimum save their work. The other option would be to simply make it the model private as suggested by Dextera! The approach of Makerworld is not an acceptable way to encourage users to invest time (and money) in their community. It also does not leave any room for error and learning! It is absolutely shocking!
From what I can see of Dextera’s behaviour towards other users, and what I have experienced myself, it is nothing but honest, cordial and participatory. Everything Makerworld should be encouraging.
This approach by Bambu/Makerworld penalises everyone!

My work has been restored.
First of all, I would like to say thank you - I really appreciate it.

But: I meant what I wrote above. I wasn’t primarily concerned with my account or the points. Of course it’s great(!) that it’s not all destroyed now.

My main concern here is really about the work (of everyone here) and about the community.

As far as I’ve noticed in the last few months here in the forum, nobody from Makerworld goes through the models and penalizes mistakes. That only ever happens on the basis of reports, doesn’t it? If you read the forum, you get the feeling that this report system is being misused as a weapon. Do I have to worry about the fact that both of my support cases happened exactly when I had an argument with someone in the forum?

And the way Makerworld is acting at the moment, it works wonderfully as a weapon. That’s why my request from above still stands:
@MakerWorld do you have to treat people like this?

  1. Do you always have to delete everything immediately? Can’t you just set things to private? At all, if the damage afterwards is so immense? Interact a little more with your members? Send out an (automated) message/warning or something? Because that feels more like “lording it over them”.

  2. Your system recognizes the licenses. Why don’t you make better use of it? If the original license is CC-BY-SA, the remixer CAN’T post anything else. Never! This already works when creating - but apparently you can change it afterwards? Why?
    I’ve just tried it:
You CAN change it - but only where it fits. Everything else is then grayed out. If I now change from CC-BY-NC to CC-BY-SA, all other options are NO longer selectable! Please make that AUTOMATIC?! Why I have the option?

I saved it, edited it again and now: CC-BY-SA is FIXED. I CANT change anything anymore. I still dont get it how all of this happened in the first place … Or was my “mistake” from a time when you perhaps did not yet have this function with the graying out?

  1. The appeal procedure is a joke. 300 characters? And a photo is a mandatory field? What’s the point? And right up front with the warning that you have exactly one attempt - after that it’s over. That’s very intimidating. You’re forcing people to send also a support ticket. And I think you’re already overcrowded enough when it comes to tickets, aren’t you?

This may sound strange, but if you always try to do everything right, this kind of behavior really doesn’t feel good to the other person.

I spent the entire day off looking for evidence of what I did wrong (or right), writing to all those people and messaging them to help them, try to recover my work … Coupled with the feeling that the account now seems to be destroyed and you have to reorient yourself.

That all felt horrible. Your approach is simply too aggressive and destructive. This should be more about working together than against each other, shouldn’t it? Now I’m afraid that - if I make the next little mistake - you’ll tear everything apart again. That can’t be the aim of MakerWorld.

Can’t we find a happy medium for all of us, @MakerWorld? Less work for you, more tolerance for us? This current system is frightening.
