Could we please get an alternative mode for editing variable layer heights with more precission / control?
Im talking about a simple spline system where you can:
- Double Click a layer (on the line) to add a control point, click it to set its layer height.
- Creating 2 or more control points, will create a ‘segment’ between them.
- Have different types of fall-off for a control points layer height (between 1 point and default height or multiple points), i.e. Linear, Smooth, Smooth Inverse, Step, etc.
- Click drag next to the line, to smoothly adjust layer height with your mouse.
- Select the edge between two points with a single click, to reveal a control point. Clicking that control point brings up a layer height input field for precise layer height for that specific segment. Click-drag the control point to adjust the balance of fall-off between the two control points if they have different layer heights.
- Placing two control points on layers right above/below each other will create a harsh cut-off (or in other words, no fall-off).
- etc.
The current variable layer height is in my opinion too imprecise and requires a lot of fidgeting around with to get a result close to what you want, but probably still quite inconsistent, no matter if over many or few layers.
I think this is a very overlooked / underused feature (at least for me) precisely because of that. Even though it can be great to get better quality visuals or strength out of critical areas while not increasing print time by making your ENTIRE model print at a layer hight just simply unnecessary…
