Point System!

Is there a way to not earn points? or saying that I don’t want the points? in a specific file?

why would you want that

I have actually considered that as well, because of all silly spamming, bots and hunt for points. It would be a way to say “I’m not a part of that shite, but here are my humble models if anyone wants them”.

I’m in the same boat. I personally don’t have any interest in the points system.

It needs revamped at least. I mean, it’s awesome in a sense, because for those designers that are putting effort/work into their stuff, it’s a way to say thank you and help fund further projects.

Something that troubles me is the amount of people that point to the point system as a reason as to why they don’t want to post, or don’t post models that wouldn’t generate many points. It’s disheartening in a way. Like other platforms aren’t giving rewards like this, and if you value design and the 3d community, it shouldn’t be about rewards. The points system does seem like it distorts people’s goals/minds a bit.

How do you tamp down that abuse and distortion of people’s motives while also still rewarding those that put a lot of work and effort into the designs they contribute to the community? Better yet, how do you make it fair? So new designers don’t feel left out, or feel like they have impossible hurdles to play with the longer term established designers.

In one of the comments left on one of my designs, the person had mentioned how they could play the game I made with their blind wife, because it was so tactile. I’ll swear up and down all day that is the real reward.

i want to get a free printer so why not like pts

Just don’t redeem the points if you don’t want them?

It’s not free, you are trading time, effort and creativity. The older I get the less time I have and I value that time more than I value a “free” printer. When I was young it would have been a different story as I had lots of time and little money. Everyone is at a different stage in their journey. Perhaps one day you will understand this perspective.

I like the Makerworld points system. I take the point about people chasing them but I think of it like this. Any model I design and upload will earn points. Some faster than others, some may be short lived… part for printers have a finite lifespan but a artistic print will always have appeal. Therefore the points can drip in for many years. It’s just a matter of your perspective on this.

I will say, I prefer the Makerworld approach to Printables. Taking the above example, my artistic design may never generate any reward…

I do appreciate it. It has helped provide filament for my next round of projects. I’ve been getting a little more adventurous with my designs, so it’s been a boon!

people I don’t say I don’t like the system but it should be a way to declare I don’t want points for this project!

I think the system is great !

I think a creator can write that declaration in the description or even in the title (I am sure you haven’t thought about it, but it’s a good way to attract attention, btw  ). There is no extra effort that’s requred from the creator to get reward points, so it’s hard to see the problem.

If showing of the points in the account is an issue, then maybe MW can have an option for creators to show or hide the points under the account. If donation is desired, maybe MW can set up a designated public account for people to donate their points to, which can then be used for charity purposes such as donating free printers to some schools, etc.

For most people, the problem is the opposite: how to get more reward points  They can always use the points to do something for others if they choose to.
