Points/gift cards for charity

I have over 130,000 points that I’ve been saving up to convert to printers/filament for charity and local schools. I have not converted them to gift cards yet.

With the new point/gift card rules, I want to know if I can still give out the coupon codes to the various organizations or if I have to actually purchase the printers/filament myself and mail it to them.

Are you part of the exclusive program? Because you could just go for payout, up to a 1000 per month or transaction, I can’t remember right this moment. Then grand the money to charity  very noble cause!

You can redeem for gift cards and hand out the codes as well! I’ve done so myself and can confirm they are not linked to your account. Just send to code and the organizations can use them :ok_hand:

I would keep track somehow of which ones you handed out because that could become very cumbersome very quickly.

There is an amazing extensions for chrome, firefox etc that lets you ‘grey out’ used cards yourself. You can find it on the forum somewhere.

Hope this helps

I purposely do not want to be part of the exclusive program. All my work is free and will always be free. So, I post on multiple download sites to reach the most makers. Since Bambu has such a generous point program, I’d like to give those points/gift cards to charity as well.

I originally planned to just create the gift cards and give the long list to charity/schools, but as the rules are changing here, I just want to understand my options. In the past I have already given out enough points for two printers.

@MalcTheOracle might have some good insight…

I have donated many printers to local schools and I have donated some points to a friend.

Given the gift cards now appear to be locked to the account that redeemed them, the ability to gift them has gone.

I donated the printers to local schools by knowing parents or teachers at the schools.

I purchased the ones they wanted with filament (don’t forget the filament) and a spare nozzle, when they arrived they picked them up. In my case, being housebound due to disability, it made sense.

Thank you for your response.

I was concerned about support, since the machines are tied to the purchaser. Can the recipient put in a service ticket for a machine that you purchase and give away? That is why I preferred to just give gift cards (as was the old policy).

The printer is registered to whichever account it is tied to.

If you buy it and hand it over to someone else, they create an account and tie it to that account.

Think about it this way, you would be unable to sell an old 3D printer if they were perpetually tied to the original purchase.

Not only would that be daft. It would break laws in many countries. This also includes warranties that are for the product not the purchaser.

For a little extra protection, give them a copy of the invoice.

Thank you for follow-up and details.
I’ve bought machines in the past that were tied to the actual purchase. Just a pain to transfer. But if the account setup is all that is needed to ‘register’ the machine, then that is great.

I appreciate your time.

Just a quick ‘sigh’!
I wanted to start redeeming points and bought one gift card and got the dreaded ‘reviewing your purchase and will get back to you within five days’.

They have become faster. Sometimes around 24 hours.

Tip:

You can stack many at the same time. If you redeem one now, that goes into the sin bin, add as many more as you need simultaneously.

When the first is reviewed, they all are approved together.

So, if you need 10, redeem 10 right now, in around 24 hours, all 10 should be approved.

I tried a second one but did not get the card number as I did on the first one.

This happened to me before and after the one was approved I was able to redeem more. No rush, that’s the way the world is these days. So many protections from fraud everywhere that the regular people who abide by rules are the ones that pay the price.

EDIT: I may have misread. The sin bin is for card 2, so I’ll try more “sin’s” and see how it goes.

I’m not sure, but I think you won’t be able to redeem more than 13-14 gift cards at once. They’ve introduced some kind of weekly limit that I hadn’t noticed before. I used to be able to redeem over 30 gift cards at once without any issues, but now, after the 13th one, I got a notification saying I’ve reached the maximum weekly amount.

There was a weekly limit based on a maximum of 6998 points redeemable every week from Saturday to Friday.

After they swapped to this sin bin, style system, I redeemed more than that in a week without issue.

So much info, so many changes. I guess that patience is the rule here.

Anger is always good too.

Dispondance is another great one.

Per transaction, there probably is a monthly limit as well though

As long as you don’t apply the card to your account it should be fine. Once you enter it on the checkout page and hit Apply it’ll lock to your account. At least, that is what I’ve been told.

Thanks, but I think the rules keep changing and that’s why I started this post.

Lot’s of changes were recently made in this area and it’s not clear (at least to me) what the final stance is on this topic. I’m not complaining, just trying to get hard facts.

I also wrote in another thread that sometimes would like to donate boosts to other users. Whether it is boosts or points is not relevant, I think this is a good idea.
