Poll: Create GitHub repos for Firmware and for Hardware for issues

Everyone please vote this up. I sent it to Bambu Lab, but if you would like to be able to see what issues they know about and are working on please let them know.

Please create GitHub repos for Firmware and for Hardware

so issues are visible and trackable and all in one searchable place

You already have a repo for Handy issues, so this is not a new idea. You also know that the repo does not have to include any code. The repo for Bambu Studio works very well for reporting issues, but users don’t know about it, because it is not advertised well.

Please do the same for

  • firmware
  • hardware
  • and maybe cloud

This a simple change that takes less than five minutes.
It will have huge benefits!

Benefits to Bambu Lab

  • users provide information in a more usable format and Bambu Lab doesn’t have to scan forums for it.
  • bugs and feature requests are already categorized.
  • information required to address the issue is more likely to be recorded
  • issues are less likely to be duplicated
  • support will receive less direct requests for non-critical issues
  • it shows the user community that you are serious about addressing their needs
  • is provides transparency about what you are planning to change/fix and what is not in the plan
  • if fosters community good will by showing users that you want to cooperate and collaborate with them

Benefits to the Users

  • one place to report issues and ask for features
  • one place to see if a issue has been reported and if there is a work-around
  • one place to see if the issue is being addressed and when to expect bug fixes etc.
  • will feel like Bambu Lab is including them in prioritizing fixes and changes
  • won’t have to read dozens of threads on multiple forums to see if there issues has a solution or work-around

Implementing this Solution

  1. create a repo for Bambu Lab Firmware
  2. create a repo for Bambu Lab Hardware
  3. define labels for the repos that make issues easier to search and filter
    • labels for printer model or AMS
    • labels for bug, feature request, etc
    • labels for status, such as new issues are labeled “waiting for triage”, and after triage there might be others like planned for next release, or assigned to, etc.
  4. Create issue templates for each repo, and on the issue creation page have buttons to create the appropriate kind of issue for the specific product. (For example, for firmware there should be a separate button for P1P firmware bug and X1C firmware bug. This way all of the correct labels get added during creation.
    • request the necessary info, such as firmware version, printer model, etc.
    • defined
  5. Post notices on every forum and community hang-out for Bambu Lab users letting them know that they should use GitHub to report issues, request features, check the status, and see if there is a work-around. Make sure that they know about this resource and how it will benefit the entire community.

Summary

Bambu Lab printers are excellent and the community has grown rapidly. But, the community is one made up primarily of makers, and enthusiasts that want to be involved. They are used to helping to solve the problems. They are used to the Open Source Model. If you give them a chance to help they will ensure that Bambu Lab is even more successful than you can imagine.
