Poor layer in radius

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with one of my models. As you can see in the picture, there is always a bad transition or a kind of line in the radius. I have already made several attempts to get rid of this, among other things with variable layer height, flow speed, print speed and so on. I print the model on a P1S, with a smooth plate and glue stick. Filament is a Polymaker PA CF6.

Do you have any ideas for me as to why this could be?

Would printing the object on its side give a better finish ?, using a raft or brim to keep it adhered to the bed

Unfortunately, it is not possible to print the part on the other side. The radius is then actually great, but then I have strength problems at the screw hole

This is common for models that build upon supports and supported models - the first few layers above the support interface can look “fallen down” or “thinly extruded” as the material volume represented by the support GAP is filled in with gravity-flowed filament above. This leaves, volumetrically, incomplete layers, as it figures itself out and brings itself back to what the gcode is trying to do. (This is exacerbated with filaments that droop upon printing)

I said all that to say this: Try reducing support top gap to ZERO, and use a support interface material that wont bond (although off the top of my head im not sure what that would be for nylon). If you don’t have that, maybe just try reducing that gap to a low number and get ready for a support removal headache :slight_smile: Some filaments also behave better if the seam is farther away from those points of the model, so try painting a seam on an easy side.

And/or flip that part on its side. Depending on the load/force this part sees, that radius corner could be a big weak spot even if the layers were fully present.
