Is it just me or this other people noticing that there is more and more people going around give poor reviews on models and profile even after there has been other people that have printed the model or profile few 100 times
No but if they leave bad reviews with no explanation just report the review, they’ll take it down
Problem is there not taking down the fake / poor reviews and it has got to be hurting the little people / designers.
I think it might be because of the many downloads and reviews? When you watch a mediocre movie you might give it a 6 on IMDB. But if the movie has a9 you might be more inclined to rate it as a 2? I also find that the rating on MakerWorld is lower compared to printables, I think that has to do with users on MakerWorld want a flawless print and play and any hiccups are fatal. But the rating on MakerWorld is only the print profiles, not the model itself. Yes it feels a bit nasty to have a successful model and somebody rates it poorly, but as long as there is counter balance it doesn’t affect me much as a designer
And I think harsh reviews are not as present in new models or models from beginning designers. In my experience people then are more constructive in their feedback
In my experience, most negative ratings come from low MW-level users, which could indicate inexperience. It’s possible that the recent sale attracted a lot of new, inexperienced users, leading to this situation.
I have seen numerous times people giving low reviews to models that have literally been printed thousends of times without any issues and blaming their failure to print it on the model /print profile…
It is agrevating… These people probably have no idea how much work goes in to designing testing, publishing and maintaining a model and also probably are inexperienced in 3D printing…
I don’t have a solution unfortunately…
Careful, you will get that one person who doesn’t equate low level with low experience and rants that you are being offensive as the person might be a genius.
Almost certainly from a low-level user who thinks they have all the experience in the world.
The same person who drove a junker for decades, buys a new car and now thinks they can drive at max speed because they have driven for decades.
You know, all experience is the same!
I think a good example is one of my models that became quite popular while it was quite hard to print:
Bambu is marketing (or at least reviewers are presenting) that their printers are plug and play, but to be honest, it is just as (un)reliable with challenging prints as my 5 year old desktop printer. This specific model has very little bed surface, very small tolerances and a lot of travel moves. Even the colour of the same type of filament can influence printing temperature and therefore stringing.
Added to that, having a lower quality of filament the model can break at the (small) end stops. All stuff you learn when you are printing a lot (or with dumb luck with the right filament matching the print profile).
Therefore the fan has a mix of 4-5 star reviews where it worked well and 1-2 star reviews where some blades were stuck (stringing) or broke (brittle filament). And at first it was frustrating. I did write the warning in the instructions and in the comments but my feeling is that people see a fun model, don’t care about the description, press print on the app, walk away and expect success.
I had more negative feedback from bambu users than other printers. I don’t think that it is that the bambu printers print worse but it is the mentality that is different. When people on printables experienced issues they started tweaking the settings and blamed their “printing skills” and were eager to improve them. On MakerWorld it was more like: model doesn’t work/blades stuck/breaks, poor design/etc.: 1 star.
Most of the comments on MakerWorld were positive though, so I ignored the negative bunch.
That said, the model wasn’t supposed to be this successful. I designed it to push the 3D printing boundaries, so some misprints were bound to happen. It is just the mentality of some users in how they cope and proceed with this.
This is an extreme example but I think that even small disappointments can create the same negativity, just because people expect a flawless experience
It started a long time before the sales started to happen it just got a lot worst over the last few months even that all i have only really just started to take notice more of what people are putting on designs.
