Poor top surface and infill issues with ABS

Soon after updating Bambu Studio and the firmware, I’ve started to have issues when printing large flat surfaces using ABS. This is regardless of whether I use the default print settings, or if I use my own (which have reduced cooling, increased top/bottom/perimeter layers, etc.).

What I’m seeing is what some would refer to as maybe “pillowing”…although a very light version of it.

What actually seems to happen is that the infill isn’t sticking properly to the base layer, or it’s getting ripped off, causing issues on subsequent layers. I never encountered this problem until recently and it doesn’t look like there’s a way to revert firmware without factory resetting.

Has anybody else encountered this issue? I’ve done the following so far:

  • Swapped to a new hot end
  • Cleaned extruder gears
  • Tried different ABS spools (I’m using Bambulab ABS)
  • Tried white PLA (issue does NOT exist with PLA - see third image below)

Nobody else seeing an issue like this all of a sudden? I’ve tried a whole bunch of things without luck and it seems like I can’t revert FW without doing a factory reset.

i have the same issue i noticed, not as bad as yours but the top layer is not as good as it should be, even with pla i can see through the top lines

For me - this issue ONLY exists on Bambu Black ABS. All other filaments and colors of ABS work fine, it’s strange.

Ultimately, changing to a different infill type that doesn’t have crossover intersections solved the issue.

If you can see through the top lines, you might not have enough top solid layers.
