Lately I have received several rolls of refill filament. The filament is poorly and loosely wrapped and keeps jamming in the ams. The filament appears to be unspooling from beneath other layers or from the sides of the spool beneath other layers. I have been just unspooling several layers and rewrapping the filament until it sticks again. Does anyone have a solution to this issue other than completely respooling the filament. This has happened on two rolls of black PLA in a row. I know this is not a serious issue, but it is highly annoying. About to quit purchasing filament from Bambu Labs.
The last few black refills of PLA Basic have done that to me. I put them on the spool, then the AMS throws an error. The filament gets ‘stuck’ from pressure on the sides of the spool. I help it along for a bit, then it eventually sorts itself out. I have found that if I handle the refill by the edges of the carboard spool, it seems to help.
I will try that. I depress the center of the filament roll after loading it onto the spool as Bambu suggests. I was wondering if that was what was causing the problem. The rolls are VERY loosely wrapped so I am unsure if it’s the roll or me depressing the filament. Now my third roll of filament refill is jamming. Time to print a re spooler I guess
I am still running through stock so I do not know (yet) about the quality of current refills.
When I had these issues, the 3 key items for me were to:
- Massage the refill to prevent edge trapping
- Use a long PTFE AMS saver to prevent in-AMS entanglement
- Use a centre spool dessiccmant holder to add that little extra weight in the AMS
But I assume you already have these points covered?
Yes. I have covered all three. Thank you for
Taking the time to respond, I appreciate it
The last 3 rolls of Black PLA Basic I’ve used have arrived tangled in one way or another. Whether it’s the refills or the full spools, the winding is sloppy, leading to tangles that cause errors or force me to babysit every job.
Bambu needs to sort out their QC on this, seeing that it’s definitely not a one-off issue.
I was wondering if they changed manufacturers as the rolls are extremely loosely wrapped. One of the rolls I opened actually had small gaps in the wrapping. The filament slightly unrolled after opening the vacuum seal.
