I need to cut a bit here to increase the opening. Is there a way to do this in Studio? I tried messing around with the cut feature but doesn’t really do what I need.
Welcome to the community.
It seems like you want to create a notch or slot. The cut tool is not the best way to do that. What you’d want to do is use a negative part. Here’s what that might look like. I’ll use a Benchy as my model and a cube as the negative part.
You can use almost any part as a negative part. I’ll use a cube but let’s say you wanted to have a threaded hole and you have a model of a screw. You could use the screw as a negative part. Start by right-click and select the negative shape you want. If it’s a specific shape from another STL, you’ll have to create an assembly first and then make that object your negative part. Let me know if you want to see how to do that.
Scale your notch to the dimensions you want.
Use the move tool to orient it inside your model
Then slice
That is very helpful, thank you very much. Let me give this a go. I may have some questions
I am assuming you figured it out (the deleted question), but just in case.
When you add the negative part, you can change the z-axis value by selecting the part and using the move toolbar icon.
Thank you. I was trying to move the object inside the part but when I used the move tool to move the object in the z direction it keeps dropping back down to the plate.
I missed one of your steps to select the object and right click for the negative shape. Once I did that, worked great. Previously I just added a cube which was my mistake.
I am printing out a test run of it right now.
I really appreciate the help, thank you
