Praise for discontinued filament

I bought a number of spools of Bambu silk PLA for a project and almost as soon as I bought them they got discontinued and replaced with a new silk (which I haven’t tried).

Been doing some large pieces in the silver PLA silk and they are beautiful! Now I’m curious why they were discontinued. Surface finish is perfect, I used tree support and it all lifted away from the models with a light pop and came away clean leaving very nice interface areas, etc. Just a joy to print with.

And now discontinued. Anyone know why?

Well this is good news for me as I have a couple spools of the old gold and silver Bambu silk pla that I was kind of dreading printing with. Did you adjust the profile at all? That is a sweet looking helmet.

Bone stock, Jon. I’ve only run the factory setup on the printer and all profiles are stock from what the RFID tells it.

I was also leery of it since it had been discontinued but I used the silver on my Clausometer (printed beautiful too) and now on the Gort head. It prints great! (I am thoroughly drying it though)

It’s a little frustrating since I am hoping to post Gort today or tomorrow but have to disclaim on the filament since unless users already have it they can’t duplicate the print exactly.

Perhaps its just being upgraded/dated like the petg basic to hf , silk+ and dual silk dont appear to be being discontinued. yet

The silk+ is what replaced the previous discontinued silk, though. No big deal. I’m sure the new stuff probably prints this well too but this was just exceptional.

Here’s the support out of the middle of the inside of the upper head part. It popped right out and looks very cool.

I noticed it the first time you posted it  because i searched for similar models , looking forward to trying silk out some time in the future , but i have to get rid of 4 eryone tricolour 250g first .

Searched for similar Gort models? Did you find anything? I’ve only found pretty crummy full figure models that are pretty meh in general.

MSEdge quite a few models popped up

Found a few more and some are pretty good. They tend to be approximations in various ways but so is mine. The real Gort was hand made, asymmetric, had minor dents and blemishes. Gort after some miles.
