I’m working on a new design and was surprised to see the price of 6704 bearings (EA005) has increased from $1.49 when I ordered in January to the price I see today which is $3.84 (over 250% increase). I don’t think it’s unreasonable to adjust prices a little bit but more than doubling the price of a specific part is a bit concerning since the cost of hardware is a key factor when coming up with new design concepts.
Was there an issue with the original price or reason for adjusting it so drastically?
That just means I helped someone out when they posted in a dedicated thread. Unfortunately I’ve got no inside knowledge. (er, none that I’m supposed to have ) That price increase is very significant though…
It seems to be also the only one listed as 1 PCS, all others show 2 PCS. Not sure how it was listed when you previously bought. It could be that it is a popular item and they have actually had to order new stock, maybe even a new supplier. Or it could be pure profit. If the prices on the other sizes start going up then I would guess that the suppliers are charging more to cover shipping, steel and import tariffs, or somebody thinks they can raise the price and blame it on tariffs and raise profit. Is it something you can find on other sites to compare prices?
This bearing was always sold as 1 PCS and has been available since the start of Maker’s Supply, it’s even included in the Maker’s Essential Kit A which is one of the reasons I used it in a previous design (Toroidal Launcher Pro).
It’s possible they are low on supply but I’d like to know more info if @Makers_Supply is able to share anything since I’m close to finalizing a new design and was going to use the same part when I saw the price increase. The bearing would have been only 30% of the total BOM but after the price increase is now over 50% of the cost which makes it harder to justify including it.
Has the makers kit price gone up? It’s wierd but when I look at the breakdown of what’s in the kit if I click on say the battery holder link it takes me to the actuall battery holder but if I click on the link for that bearing it takes me to the A1 printer sales page.
Looking at that bearing (6704zz) on say Aliexpress the price is anywhere from 0.99 for 10 to almost 3.00 apiece for 5. All high quality of course.
I know it doesn’t help you trying to offer a design that is easy for people to get the components for.
@Tanklet Is this something you can ask the team about? It would be great to know if this was an intentional 250% price increase or the result of something else (low supply, dynamic pricing, etc.). Thank you!
Looks like the price has been corrected and is now only 10% more than it was in January Was this just an error or is the pricing of parts somehow dynamic?
Thank you so much for pointing it out! We were trying to adjust the price for the US store due to the 25% tariff. However, there was an error, and the price was mistakenly set at 250% of the intended amount. We’ve now fixed the issue, and the price has been set correctly at $1.64.
