There have been several reports on reddit of the primary nozzle PTFE filament guide tube breaking inside the fitting at the print head. The broken piece can be difficult to extract from the fitting. Some people have had to disassemble the print head to do it.
The cause is that as the printer is operating, the guide tube wallows around in the quick release fitting that uses claws to hold the guide tube in place. The claws slowly dig further and further into the tube, and eventually the tube breaks. It will happen to all X2Ds eventually if not addressed. The issue is likely worse for those people not using a riser.
Here is what mine looks like after about 800 hours of printer usage. Its not horrible yet, but its on its way.
There are a few models that recently appeared on Makerworld to stabilize the primary and aux filament guide tubes. Here is one reasonably compelling example:
Here is a photo of the print. I made two and chopped off the upper part for the piece on the left.
This will stabilize the guide tubes, but a few people have said that this design increases filament friction enough to cause their AMS to complain. The piece is probably holding the filament too straight-up when the print head is far-left or far-right in its travel. There is room to move the stabilizer clamps further down in the head which would mitigate the friction issue without diminishing the value of this piece.
Is someone able to make a modified version of this that moves the stabilizer “clamps” further down into the head?
