Prime tower unessecarily large for AUX extruder support materials

Hi!

I’m a first time poster here and I’ve just recently gotten my X2D set up after having used my universities P1S printers for a few years now. I’m wondering if there’s any way to reduce the size of the prime tower when printing models using the dual nozzles to make multi material supports? What I mean is that the prime tower seems very large in cases where only one material is used per extruder, and no purging is really happening.

I don’t want to disable the prime tower either as I’ve noticed blobbing and underextrusion happening when switching extruders, but it’s size seems way overkill if it’s only really needed to prime the nozzle pressure rather than purging old material.

What I’ve seen is that the prime tower size is determined by the flushing volume of a filament, but having this be the only setting seems weird as this would negatively affect material switching within a single nozzle if not changed back. Why isn’t there a parameter for flushing folume or priming volume that’s specific to switching extruders and not the material within the extruders? I hope I’m not mixing any terms up here.

Is there some workaround I’ve missed or is this an oversight in the Bambu Studio software? Why isn’t there an option to make the prime tower smaller regardless of the ammount of purge volume needed to change colour/material within the nozzle?

there is also a setting for filament change, can’t look it up exactly at the moment. in total there are 4 settings that have an influence on the purge tower. When you fine tune it, you can easily cut the purge tower in half or even less.

Is there some setting that doesn’t really affect the purge amount for material changes within the nozzle? The thing I’m worried about is that I’ll tweak the specific filament settings so that the prime tower shrinks, but then when I switch materials through the AMS in this instance, the purge ammount won’t be enough to flush out the old material.

the purge amounts between different filaments inside one nozzle are separate. Above the process settings, there is this button, i think it says purge volumes.

Seems like the latest beta has optimizations for the size of the prime tower, FYI.

I am having a similar problem. I’m trying to print a very small model with a 0.2 nozzle on an X2D (0.5g ~20 minutes) and I need support filament which I have loaded on the auxiliary extruder. If I enable the prime tower, the print goes to 5 grams and 90 minutes!!! I have tried changing the prime volume for extruder switch for the filament settings, but this does nothing. Maybe purge makes sense with a single extruder setup, but this is a dual extruder and the waste (and more importantly - time loss!) should be minimal.

That’s awesome! I haven’t found the exact changes in the release notes yet though.

I also hope they’ll start rolling out specific improvements to the X2D’s print quality issues.

Ohh it was very clearly written close to the end of what is new/change log.

It is like if you need to print 2 layers with different colors on the top of 100 layers it will not print also 100 layers tower but will print on the tower only when the color change is needed. So basically it becomes like smaller separate object. So you save from many layers if you do not have color change on every layer. This is how it should be on the first place to be honest but anyway. Maybe they also improved something in the XY size. As this only affects Z.
