One benefit of using parts instead of objects is that parts don’t need to be touching the build plate. This makes it easy to print one part on top of another.
But one benefit of using objects, is that you can print by object instead of by layer. If object 1 and object 2 are in two completely different colors, that means you don’t need to do a color change every layer and can save some filament. The only tricky thing is to make sure there are no collisions.
I think it could also be useful to print by parts instead of objects (or alternatively, just allow objects to not touch the build plate). Here’s a simplified model of what I’m trying to print:
The two smaller cubes will be printed on top of the black backing square, so they must be parts and not objects. However, this means that I have to print them by layers, even if it should be doable to print each smaller cube individually to avoid color changes.
Thoughts on this feature request, or if there are any workarounds for this?
