Operating my X1C for about 100 hours now. Starting very recently I am hearing an unsettling sound I can only describe as a high pitched scraping when the print head moves rapidly to the left or left and back (though, not left and forward it seems). I notice this sound during the bed leveling as it finishes its incremental probes to the far right, then rapidly moves left and back a “row” for the next set of probes to the right.
I don’t hear this noise during prints whatsoever, it’s quite quiet most of the time but since I did not hear it for the first ~100 hours it’s something I wanted to investigate. Anyone have any insight to whether or not this is normal or what to check first?
If you can see that the noise is from the nozzle scraping the plate, I would manually level(tram) the bed. The automatic leveling may not be able to compensate if the bed is too far out of adjustment.
If it is something else, I’d start with basic maintenance procedures, especially cleaning the carbon rods and adjusting the belt tension.
The first video shows a squeak with Z-axis movement, which apparently is not your problem.
If all the maintenance steps are already performed you will need to search for the source of the squeak, which seems to be related to x-y movement. I would unplug the printer and move the print head by hand at varied speeds to cause the noise until I could pinpoint a noisy pulley, a rubbing belt, etc.
Sometimes a noise can be isolated by using a piece of tubing as a stethoscope of sorts, one end at your ear, moving the other end around the machine to hear where it is loudest.(might need a helper for that, or three hands)
