Print head carriage "play", poor outer wall quality

Since i bought my x1c, the outer walls quality was not as perfect as ist should be.
But since a few days, the quality is disgusting.

I know theres a “tape fix” for this problem, but i can’t believe there’s no official solution like
an optmized carriage.

i hope that you guys on BambuLab will offer a better solution for us costumers,
i’m also ready to pay a few bugs for a optmized carriage. Or design some, so that people can print themselves a new one.

What kind of outer wall flaws?

What filament?

Looks horrible ^^

It’s eSUN ePLA-Matte, but you can see this on all filaments.

video uploaded, you can hear it also

Can someone plz tell me if this play is normal or not?

I’ve seen many reviews and pictures of their prints, some look similar and some look stunning. It’s very annoying that my sidewinder x1 has better print quality :see_no_evil:

I would re-tension your belts, making sure the carriage is square (X and Y rods). Clean your rods, then tune your filament with Orca Slicer calibrations again.

All of that didn’t help. I completely disassembled the print head and discovered something strange. The cage has already been lined with tape at the factory. So I mounted the cage again as a test without tape, turning the bearings a bit and tightening the screws from the inside to the outside. What can I say?

I have absolutely no more play on the axles.

At the moment I’m still waiting for the silicone adhesive to dry.

I’ll test print tomorrow.

Can you provide some pics to check on mine? Ty

Hi, I’m testing a few more prints to verify the steps. In any case, the first print was perfectly successful, no matter what angle, you can no longer see any type of banding.

I hope you took pictures and documented or can at least give a detailed written process on what and how you did it for others to follow.

I am glad that your efforts have solved the problem, and hopefully will help others. Well done.

Hello Sticks, yes I will publish photos and descriptions this week. First of all, I still had to print an urgent large order (all ASA), still no play on the axle and the quality was excellent.

Looking forward to see the results :ok_hand:t3:

So, now I can finally answer questions.

After several hours of test prints, the play is back. Technically, the springs should take up play at all times.

In fact, I could not prove any change in the surface quality.

In the end, only settings on the filament helped.

These were made using the calibration available in the Orca Slicer.

Here is a good example how to do this: Manual Filament Tuning on Bambu Lab Printers with Orca Slicer!

Bummer. I was hoping you found “The One”.

You might have had something going and it slipped. More focus is being put to belts insofar as tension, and alignment.
