when I print the petg does the fan always turn on unlike the normal pla?
Are you asking if you should turn the fan on when printing with PETG? If not, please explain in more detail.
I noticed that when I print the petg the fan works hard and normal? unlike when I print pla
Normal. PETG needs a lot more cooling than PLA.
That’s normal
Also be a good idea to keep the front door open so the chamber temps stay lower
Maybe you could say which of the 4 fans you are talking about.
No need to keep door open for PETG on the X1. Just use part cooling.
It depends on the complexity of what I’m printing, the size of it, how I want the quality to be, how fast I want it done, the brand of filament, etc.
If it’s a large part, I don’t need much cooling because by the time the hotend gets back around to the next layer, it’s probably already cooled because I go slow. Because I go slow, I also tend to need minimal cooling on my smaller parts.
I tune every single filament I use, and I usually use the same filament brands over and over. I don’t care about different brands and saving a few bucks here and there to use something different. I’m currently in the middle of tuning the Bambu Lab PETG-CF filament and adjusting the speed and cooling so that I can set it and forget it. I do this by printing a few Benchy’s and if I see lifting on the front or messed up overhangs, I add a little more cooling to the min threshold on part cooling. I try not to have the part cooling at the maximum threshold by not printing layers that quickly.
I make sure I do temperature towers and stringing tests for every single filament I use, so I have the proper temps and speeds running, so I don’t have to over cool my filament because I’m going to hot/fast.
I tune every single model that I’m going to end up print repeatedly, which means I print it 10-20 times and dial in all my settings on that model.
TL:DR - The baseline generic BBL settings get you pretty close and will show you what fans need to be on for most things, but you still might have to tinker with some of them up or down to get what you want.
