When i change filament type from one type to another, the speed settings in bambu studio stay the same, does anyone know what im doing wrong,i changed to petg filament and the speeds didn’t change from pla
Printing speed is calculated by several factors, but boils down to 2 presets:
- selected filament (and within the filament the most limiting factor is the volumetric flow)
- Global preset (e.g. 0.2 Standard @BBC, etc) - within the global preset there is the sub-tab ‘speed’ where the different movement speeds are defined.
And there are some additional factors which determine the final total print time
So if you want to change the speed of the printer, the easiest way is to modify an existing printing preset. Depending on what you want to achieve, be careful with any values you modify.
Thanks, when using prusa slicer, the speed settings change depending on which filament you are using, just seems strange that bambu studio speeds settings are tailored to different filament types
No, thats not true - PrusaSlicer has the same behavior. I looked it up now myself again…If you use the same printing preset and only change the filament it can happen that the print time changes based on the volumetric speed (and cooling setting). The same is true in BambuSlicer.
Are you having print issues?
I must admit this was the way I thought too, but now that I have my temperature settings dialled in, I use the same speed settings for PETG as I do for PLA. Pretty surprising coming from a Prusa and having to change every single detail.
For me it’s about getting the right temps for the material (both filament and bed temps) and doing a flow calibration when I switch between filaments.
Hi,i found that the default settings were much too fast for petg, pla settings are good,im going to create my own profile for petg
Alright mate, if you want somewhere to start, I tried this guy’s settings before:

Keep us posted on your settings!
Thanks alot for your help,i will try these settings
Apparently Bambu Studio DOES NOT save speed settings with the Filament settings. Instead speed settings are applied to the Print (not Printer) Settings group. Whether you have the AMS unit or not it seems appropriate that speed settings would be grouped with the Filament Settings. For now you will need to save print settings for each filament manufacturer and characteristics (ie, speed) and you will need to reselect (possibly) a different print settings profile when you use a different filament.
The general speed setting standard, sport etc. are going to be the same because these are just percentages of speed. Each pinter/slicer profile settings will be different based on many factors, overall speed, speed of first layer, speed of Wall loops, etc., etc.
