Printer detecting 5 filaments instead of 4

So while I’m waiting to fix my main problem I have a minor glitch it seems. My X1c in Bambu Studio is telling me I have 5 filaments connected instead of just the 4 in the AMS. When I do a resync it lists the four that I have then adds another one on the end, always generic black. I have cycled power and everything else to no avail. Any ideas?

Reset your external spool

Ensure that the filament sensor on your 3D printer is clean and functioning properly. Dust, debris, or a faulty sensor could potentially trigger false readings. Double-check the filament configuration settings in Bambu Studio to ensure that only the correct filaments are selected and configured. Remove any unnecessary or duplicate entries from the list. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your X1 Carbon 3D printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can address compatibility issues and bugs related to filament detection. Try resetting the printer settings to default or clearing the cache in Bambu Studio. This can sometimes help resolve software-related glitches or conflicts.

Not sure about the AMS vs the AMS lite, but with the lite you go into the filament menu, go to the external spool and hit reset. It seems to remember if you’ve had an external spool loaded, so it loads the 4 in the AMS and then the 1 in the external.

Ditto what @Ankou556 says. Once you define an external spool, it stays there as a filament option. My TPU is always shown there even though it’s not loaded, and I print it infrequently. It shows every time on my status screen.

This is from a different problem but shows the optional external TPU filament.

Chopped Off Screen

The external spool shown on the Device tab is strictly a manual setting. There are no sensors to detect RFID tags, or if the type/color is correct, or if a spool is even present. If you want to change it, you must tap the pencil to edit or reset it to unknown.

You can just ignore it if you are using an AMS.

@lkraus Yeah, I wish I had said that.

I’ll try that, funny part is that I have never used an external spool, just the AMS.
